The 'original & present' preamble to the Constitution is: "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union" However, the modern Democratic Party wants to change it to: "We the DEMOCRATIC PARTY of the United States, in order to form a more perfect SOCIETY" Proof of this is all to obvious these days with their lack of respect for constitutional founding values, and not even attempting to amend it for their purposes, but just 'bypassing' it and thereby making it irrelevant to a modern society. And Obama is their prophet in this endeavor, with even moderate Democrats being arm twisted (or driven out of the party by Progressive $$ in the primaries) into following this pied piper of Utopian promises of across the board equality regardless of individual efforts. EDIT: Reminds of the book Brave New World that I read back in HS. The State is the all and knows what's best for the population as a whole. Uses the drug Soma to control them---does not cause hallucinations but appeases the population into conformance and squelches any thoughts of rebellion (or evening 'questioning'). And, the population 'must' take it daily...and all other drugs have been eliminated and become unnecessary, but Soma. Also, new beings brought into society to replenish it are not done thru normal sexual acts, but thru test tubes...hmmmmmmm...sounds like where we are marching to today!! Funny, because that is almost completly a psychological projection of the RIGHT? The Democratic Party has people in it ranging from socialist Bernie Sanders to near-Republican Ben Nelson....while the GOP is "purifying" itself of anybody one toe to the Left of Todd Akin. And as for "Utopian"..."Utopia" is a fantasy world that never existed, but where eternal happiness and prosperity reigns......kind of like the "Utopia" of "If we just cut taxes for the rich more and eliminate Social Security and Medicare and let corporations decide what is pollution and what isn't....things will be PERFECT.".....i.e. the rightwing agenda. I really do appreciate the good work the GIs and cops do, I just didn't need protection from Iraqis. The Taliban should have been carpet bombed for 24 hours and then the country abandoned. Btw, one of my best pals was an instructor at the Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy (ALETA) on the west side. I think that used to be run by DPS and I assume it was the predecessor to SALETC.
W/o re-fighting the Iraqi war & WMD's that EVERYONE bought in to; we have learned one thing for sure about the Muslims---they dont want freedom as we know it, but prefer bondage to Sharia Law. Personally, the only difference I see between Sharia and Biblical law is the manner of execution. Agreed If you got termites, you gotta fumigate the house. To take a Sidebar: You're right in that OT law as in Deuteronomy (called so for the '2nd Laws 'given) had to deal with 'now' judgment & punishment for sins/crimes against God & others just as medieval Sharia Law was enacted and is used today. Immediate punishment for 'crimes & offenses' that violate the std of their society. But the Law of the OT was fulfilled by the obedience of a NT Jew called Jesus of Nazareth, who was w/o sin, and obedient to death, even death on a cross. And so the NT covenant is based not on judgment but on grace, where judgment & punishment of an individual have been deferred until the end, allowing time for repentance and forgiveness per the mercy of God and NOT by that of men. That is why it is called a 'new & better covenant' between God & man....the Islamists have no 'grace nor mercy' in their present day law and are missing out on NT realities... And so you are partially right, but presently wrong... From previous post, my analogy was:
