Yeah, I visited 3 years ago. The homelessness I saw reminded me of stories my grandma told me about growing up during the Depression.
Not sure if it is any better or worse there now.

I'd guess with the improvement in the economy, there's probably fewer new people becoming homeless, but there's a lot of people who had become homeless several years ago still stuck out there.

 

It's from gentrification or the cost to rent and to buy far exceeds that majorities incomes.

 

Do try to keep up with someone else post since you missed the subject at hand. WTF does St. Louis have to do with the rest of Missouri? WTF does a city with a majority of democrats have to do with it? It is a problem due to inflation and lack of funding for people to afford to live....I live in the country and people are living in shacks with no electricity or water. Wake up to the plight of the poor not your political partisan one upmanshit.

 

Which has to do with really stupid policies of the good intentions leading straight to hell variety.

 

Gentrification does occur due to the wealthy locking out people by monetary class.

 

The wealthy seem to want to move to the cities these days.
That's a reversal of the middle class flight trend that happened in the 70s and 80s. (research urban decay for a sociological history on that)

Since the US population has grown but the amount of old city areas have not, it looks like poorer people cannot afford to live in the older big cities these days.

Detroit might be one of the few exceptions, but they have big big problems. (i.e. there's a reason people don't want to live there, bad weather, lack of jobs, out of control crime, much of the former old city left to fall apart)

 

I left the burbs and moved to the rural area to get away from humans...and the high costs of living in cities...

 

Ironically a lot of liberals are moving to rural areas these days.

I do wonder what will happen to them. If they will turn and become more conservative, or if they will turn those conservative places liberal, or if maybe this will represent the end of the line for liberals who cannot afford to live in their own cities anymore.

In the long-term, it could represent an ultimate die-off of liberals, replaced by the children of those who came here from other countries.

These days, we're seeing a new breed of "career progressives" who have to keep focusing on their careers to afford living where they are, somewhat ironically having more bourgeoisie attitudes than their liberal predecessors of the 60s and 70s.

 

No shortage of liberals or conservatives in either place. Most humans are humans and do not live a political theory daily.

You people refuse to see reality.

 

There is only one of myself..the mass majority of people I interact with show no signs of political strife as we live each day.

 

And everyone else is not like you!

The poor are poor for two reasons. A shortage of entry level jobs caused by high minimum wage, and everyone from Heritage to Brookings agrees on that. And because we spend for too much money on the bureaucracy that disperses the money and not just on salaries either.

 

And taxes are way too high.

 

Don't know about taxes I do know that when the combination of taxes and bureaucracy exceed a certain point there we be fewer jobs created that will help the poor.

 

It only took about 3 decades for the democrat party to destroy this state.

 

The state is not destroyed and contributes much to the US.

 

Its absolutely destroyed.

 

Actually I was thinking that people like Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom could provide room in their homes for the homeless. If every Democrat in California who makes six figures or more would take in one homeless person the crisis would be over.

 

Ever try to build housing in California?

Wealthy people don't do that sort of nonsense no matter which party they are affiliated with including the ones that claim to be Christians...

 

Actually gentrification is the direct result of rent control and similar policies that lead to people being unwilling to build new multi family dwellings. With few exceptions the highest rent always exists paradoxically in places with the strongest rent control policies.

 

That doesn't address the fact that a large % of the homeless need medical and psychiatric care.
