What changes will endure after COVID is controlled?

So, what do you think will always be different and what will go back to "normal"?

One thing that seems to be a consensus is that telework/working from home is here to stay in far greater numbers than in the before times. I know that my agency has proven we can get our job done working from home 95% of the time. There is talk of a 2 days in the office 3 days at home routine once the all clear has sounded.

A friend that works for ATT in customer care has been one of the lucky ones that will be working from home even after COVID is somewhat a memory. About 50% of their local workforce will be full time telework.

This of course is bad for commercial real estate as there are some very tall buildings in downtown that will never be fully occupied again. It is also bad for shops and diners that relied on lunch traffic and those meeting after work.


I would say that personal shoppers and delivery services will continue to expand even when people feel safe. I was at WalMart Saturday and the number of associates filling order for pickup was the most I have ever seen. For just a few dollars more you can pull up and have everything put in your trunk. Great for people with small kids or in a hurry.

As Florida is showing us, getting drunk and partying will never go away.

So, what else will be different?

 

Didn't you get the memo...Covid is mutating into new strains unaffected by the "miracle vaccines" (BIG surprise, huh?). The happy horses**t we've endured for the past year IS THE NEW NORMAL. Enjoy!

 

Once enough people are vaccinated COVID will be not unlike the flu and we will have seasonal outbreaks.

Clearly we are not in a "new normal" since multiple states have already removed all restrictions.

 

Another thing I think is here to stay is more people wearing mask during the cold/flu season.

This was already a thing in many parts of the world, Japan being the most famous for it. When they were feeling a bit under the weather they wore a mask not to protect themselves but to not infect others.

I think we will see this same sort of thing catching on in America.

 

What you don't understand is that the concoction in the injection is not a vaccine, assuming you're into proper legal and medical definitions. The concoction does not confer immunity. It is only an experiment with gene-editing drugs, good luck to everybody who has taken it.

The virus will never be 'controlled' as you claimed, any more than flu has been controlled, or HPV or Herpes or any other of the millions of virus that inhabit our bodies. We will live with the virus, despite its 'engineered for gain of function' status.

And yes Darth, Big Pharma will make healthy profits and the gullible masses will continue to be frightened.

 

I am not going to pick nits over the strict definition of a "vaccine", that is just a silly rabbit hole.

And all of those things are controlled compared to when they first hit. COVID will be the same way. As I said, there will still be a COVID season like there is a flu season, but we will not see half a million people a year dying from it.

As I told someone else on this forum, my wife is a critical care nurse that has been working directly with COVID patients since the start. COVID is not about gullible masses being frightened, it is about anyone with a brain being concerned. After a decade of critical care experience she saw things she had never seen before in COVID patients. The rapid change, the lingering effect, the long term damage done to lungs. These things are not lies, they are not stories made up to frighten people, they are real and anyone that thinks otherwise needs to quit getting their science from their politicians.

No, it had to do with common courtesy when riding a subway with 10,000 other people and not wanting to spread your germs to them.

Or at least that is how it was explained to me when I lived in Japan.

I travel the region (up until covid) and the only time it had to do with viruses was when one was hitting the region. Otherwise, it was smog

Someone at the DMV told me they plan to keep the by appointment only posture even after COVID is over because it is so much "nicer". Well for them perhaps, but for the covid automatic extensions my driver's license would have expired since the earliest available appointment when I signed up almost two months before the actual expiration date was 2 weeks after the original expiration date.
