"I have examined all the known superstitions of the world and I do not find
in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They
are all alike founded on fables and mythology. Millions of innocent men,
women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been
burnt, tortured, fined, and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this
coercion? To make one half the world fools and the other half hypocrites; to
support roguery and error all over the earth."

    - Thomas Jefferson

"Among the most detesable villains in history, you could not find one worse
than Moses. Here is an order, attributed to 'God' to butcher the boys, to
massacre the mothers, and to debauch and rape the daughters. I would not
dare so dishonor my Creator's name by (attaching) it to this filthy book
    (the Bible)."

"It is the duty of every true Deist to vindicate the moral justice of God
against the evils of the Bible."

"Accustom a people to believe that priests and clergy can forgive sins...and
you will have sins in abundance."

And; "The Christian church has set up a religion of pomp and revenue in
pretend imitation of a person (Jesus) who lived a life of poverty."

    - Thomas Paine

". . . Some books against Deism fell into my hands. . . It happened that they wrought an effect on my quite contrary to what was intended by them; for the arguments of the Deists, which were quoted to be refuted, appeared to me much stronger than the refutations; in short, I soon became a through Deist."

    - Ben Franklin

Quotes can go either way....and do. But it doesn't matter. I think the Founders were made up like the majority of the American people at the time. Christian.

To say that majority of the citizens were Christian (as we all know is the case) but the majority of our Founders weren't....is stupid and arrogant.

But it doesn't matter. No one is trying to make Jesus Christ the official governmental head of the United States of America. People just vote their individual conscience. Some people simply don't like how some people vote and try to find arguments to invalidate them as legal.

People today cite the Bible as a reason for denying gays rights. The founding fathers would have been appalled at this.

Deism (Listeni/ˈdiː.ɪzəm/[1][2] or /ˈdeɪ.ɪzəm/) is a religious philosophy which holds that reason and observation of the natural world, without the need for organized religion, can determine that the universe is the product of an intelligent creator.

To claim deism as secularism is disingenuous. I am a deist. And I am telling you, America was much a Christian nation. 3 guys at the top don't trump the views of millions at the bottom. Even today, our government has to lie to the citizenry at every election and then does the opposite. Would you contend our government defines the people? Our government is the polar opposite and only holds power through lack of balls on the citizenry's part.

Are the religious citizens prepared to wrest power from our secular government and establish the theocracy they dream of having? Looks like we're already set to get that in November

Ya, I would hardly call Romney a religious zelot out to instill a theocracy. An opportunistic zelot perhaps, but not inherently so.

You were provided lengthy quotes.... and still deny reality?

    Why?

    Jefferson was smart!

Think for yourself folks. If you are TOLD what to believe, that should set off bells and whistles in your mind.

It's okay to have beliefs, but it isn't wrong to be 'critical' of religion and the actions which have stemmed from the same.

Since no other reason...legal...has ever been stated, the only conclusion that can be drawn ( and the Ninth District Court is with me on this) is that hate is the reason for the denial.

It is very obvious that you are a closed-minded hater. It is in your every post. My humanity is less than yours, in your eyes. And you don't even know me.

What does that say about you??

Yes, people are trying to make Christianity, in a bastardized version, into the law of the land. That is what Romney is counting on. Real Christians have nothing to do with this, however. It makes me rather ill to think about it.

I don't deny reality. And I'm not saying the quotes are false. Actually I don't care.

I said....that our founders realistically were of the same make-up as the country. Majority Christian.

But for your own information---I was given quotes "demonstrating" how anti-religious George Washington was. And found the quotes false and out of context when I looked up the actual quotes in the actual correspondance.

It says I can discern hype and a self-focused mentality. It reminds me of when Larry Summers (Harvard?) brought forward the idea---in an open forum anything goes brainstorming meeting--- that perhaps one reason women don't excel as well as men in math courses is because they are biologically different.

Women had to leave they were so upset and a few thought they would faint. Of course Larry Summers was fired. He suddenly "hated" women and was a dangerous man.

That type of emotional flack is what I see in the Gay Marriage debate. If you disagree---you are a hater. Very convenient and oh so old.

No, the founders would be apalled that atheists would put forth the idea that a man or woman's vote is invalid if they are religious.

    Which atheists did that?

Possibly has to do with the act of love making. It's not a heterosexual turn on. But as you alluded to, lesbianism is quite broadly a turn on for hetrosexual men, which essentially doesn't mean the same acts of love making as gay men, if you know what I mean! The human subconcious psyche is what needs to be challenged. Humans couldn't even come to terms with disabilities and treated these "people" with disdain for centuries and beyond. I'm fairly confident that people have gotton over their fears and pride here.
