No, it has not worked well. In fact, given the poverty numbers for the US, it has worked extremely poorly.

It is not any more of a goofy pick than Yassar Arafat for the Peace Prize or Obama who was literally President for only a few days, even he was perplexed by that one. The Nobel committee is and has been a complete joke for decades now. No one actually takes them seriously.

Actually when Arafat got it for being a terrorist is when most people gave up on the Nobel committee. :p

No in fact the constitution was written to minimize the governments impact on your choices on how best to do right by your family and friends. You promote the general welfare by maximizing human freedom not by minimizing it. You do not maximize human freedom by stealing from a and giving it to b. In fact you diminish both.

It is a sorry deal for people of excellence that really deserve the prize have had it degraded because of the likes of Obama.

Are you seriously proposing a false dichotomy as your best effort to discuss the issue?

I see great value to society as a whole in having a better educated population. Wouldn't you rather have more pearls and less swine?

That was my point. The right has managed to undermine K-12. They even got somebody who is openly anti-public education named Public Education Secretary. And they have worked hard for years at de-funding public education. But the Nobel Prizes we keep winning indicate that the undermining of higher education, which is now their objective, has not reached its goal.

Doing well doesn't mean it's perfect. We are still the richest country in the world. It would work much better if the right didn't keep trying to jam trickle-down economics down our throats all the time.

Not really. It was written "in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, "

Says so right there on the Constitution. You might want to read it sometime. But, then again, you'd need to read all of it... and not just the 2nd Amendment.

Wow! These guys are so horrified about the possibility of seeing billionaires pay their fair share for the benefits they receive from living in this country, that they bring up this nonsense even when it's off-topic.

And of course all those tings are necessary to insure liberty and freedom. I have read all of it. I also know what those words meant to those who wrote it, you obviously do not.

The upper 1% pays the highest percent of the tax burden it has since the time they were the only ones that were taxed 1916 to 32. What the hell do you think fair is?

Every state in the union now spends more on education than it ever has. No one I know is talking about undermining education. What we are talking about is the ending of indoctrination and replacing it with actual education.

Scroll up. I didn't make a false dichotomy. Feel free to quote me if you think I'm mistaken.

The Right hasn’t really controlled education in...forever. Nice try. And what goal does the supposed right have?

The poor oppressed billionaires must be glad they have somebody like you to defend them. But you missed the topic. The question is, regardless of who pays federal taxes, what we do with them. And what we do with them is make the country move forward even if it's at the cost of your petty individual preferences..

Or maybe you're not inadvertently missing the point. Maybe you just need to change it because you have nothing to contribute.

I can only give you facts to try to remedy your obvious shortcomings in what you know. I can't help you with who you know.

And, of course, by "actual education" you mean teaching creationism, deny Climate Science, embrace pseudo-sciences like conversion therapy, ...

Historically the right has had a terrible relationship with real Education. And, as a result, we have fallen behind other countries.

Good point. Joachim Frank is actually German, so it seems "socialist" education works. However, research is probably more important than education for determining Nobel prizes. Luckily, the US still has one of the best public funding systems in the world. However, the GOP is working hard to undermine it. Trump proposed a 10% cut to the NIH and NSF in his draconian budgets.

Nobel laureate in Chem. Frank, was funded by both NSF and NIH, giving a pretty high return on investment. Not only that, but he also developed methods that WILL help drug development in the future, giving a direct boost to the private sector. Why the GOP is defunding those agencies is beyond me.

Obama got the nobel peace prize. That makes it pretty meaningless anymore.

You probably moved to a high-property tax school district. Why? because such districts are sought after, because the best funded schools tend to be the best. This is one area where people actively seek out higher taxes to help their children's education. Of course, once they move to these districts, they work actively to get their taxes reduced. Hypocrites, the whole bunch.

Here in Florida they have completely controlled and made a mess of education for almost two decades. At a Federal level, guess which area suffers every time there is negotiation with the right for a budget.

Oh... it's pretty obvious. Uneducated voters are easier to manipulate than educated voters. They don't complain about scientific facts that might harm Corporate interest, and they don't even notice when they get an uneducated guy running for President, who lies every time he opens his mouth.... That doesn't work so well with most educated people.

Dude, let me help you understand the difference. This is the definition of a false dichotomy: "A situation in which two alternative points of views are presented as the only options, whereas others are available."

My statement "Maybe if the Democrats stopped focusing on banning guns and just adding an "education tax" on them, we could do that" was bipartisan suggestion that has a higher chance of passing Congress and being signed by POTUS than banning guns.

Here let me enlighten you, By the term actual education I mean teaching people how to think rather than what to think. Get back to me when you actually have facts. The Federal education bureau hasn't contributed any thing to public education other than another level of bureaucracy to siphon money through before it gets to the class room. The rights had a bad relationship with educrats not class rooms. The lefts been in control of the class rooms for the most part since Jimmy Carter. Blaming Republicans for bad Results in the class room is like blaming Mars for earthquakes on Venus.

MY point is that it doesn't work that way. Either everyone is blessed or no one is. Your idea of progress is takes us back to the age of divine right of kings.
