As a pilot, I'm glad you reported that. With the advent of drones and looser regulation on pilots of tiny craft, airspace is not getting any safer.
Indeed, though this was pre-drones .... and official channels weren't interested in the airspace safety angle in any case.
Loved the middle finger Meantime, was trying to figure out where that pretty but horribly flat country was. Should have guessed it was WA ... the land of no-hills.
I mean there are lumps, sure, but nothing high enough for a different climate. 500 metres above sea level is the bare minimum in that regard.
Mt. Rainier is the most topographically prominent mountain in the 48 contiguous states. There are taller mountains in some places, but they start from a significant altitude. The Cascade Range has significant numbers of active volcanoes with permanent glaciers and snow fields. Plus we have the permanently snow covered Olympic mountains that rise from sea level to the West of Seattle - a weather barrier that causes the west side of the Olympic peninsula to include one of the few temperate rain forests in the world. From Seattle, there are mountains with permanent snow in pretty much all directions. Plus, Seattle has seasonal night skiing within 45 minutes - allowing skiing after work. This isn't some competition. There are other states with mountains, obviously - in Western states, as there are no real mountains east of the Mississippi. But, the notion that Washington is flat is just plain ridiculous.
That's nice. Myself and the person who posted the footage of WA are not in America ... so not really relevant
