The Obama Administration soothes Americans with its tales of diplomatic success with Iran. The Iranian nuclear threat is all but gone because of the President's will and the Secretary of State's finesse. Or that's what they tell us. But what does Iran say?

Today, Iran's FARS news agency released this story -

"Army Commander: Enemy Unable to Confront Iran Militarily

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Army Commander Major General Ataollah Salehi downplayed the US officials’ war rhetoric against Tehran, and said the enemies are not able to confront Iran militarily.

“Had the enemy been able to confront us militarily, it would have already taken action,” Salehi said in Tehran on Tuesday.

He referred to the current political and nuclear talks between Iran and the world powers, including the US, and said, “Given their weakness in the military dimension, they have opted for the political arena and we will certainly succeed in this area too.”

Salehi voiced confidence that the power and might of the Iranian Armed Forces will influence the talks between Tehran and the world powers.

In relevant remarks in December, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force General Qassem Soleimani downplayed Washington’s war rhetoric against Tehran, and underlined that the US has collapsed in all the three arenas of economy, politics and military.

“The Americans and (US President Barack) Obama are lying when they assert that all options are on the table against Iran,” Soleimani said in the Southeastern city of Sirjan.

“That the Americans say we have brought Iran to its knees by pressures and sanctions is nothing more than a lie, rather it is the US which has collapsed in political, economic and military arenas which are considered as the main elements of power,” he added.

Soleimani noted the US failures in the three aforementioned areas, and reminded that the US has the largest volume of debts in the world. "The US has also failed in the military aspect in any country against which it has waged a war, including Iraq and Afghanistan," he added.

In the political field, he said, the US is also the most hated country in the world, meaning that it has fallen down in every aspect of power."

You may wonder if this is just the rogue opinion of one general. Well, Iran's President, Hassan Rouhani, wrote a Twitter post today saying "Our relationship w/ the world is based on Iranian nation's interests. In #Geneva agreement world powers surrendered to Iranian nation's will" That's what the general said.

So which view is correct? Washington's or Tehran's?
