No they don't. If you are born into poverty, you do not have the same opportunity. Donald Trump and Mitt Romney were born into privilege. That is not the same opportunity as being born in the hood.

It's those little subtle things, that tell the real story.

 

If one truly believes in white privilege then maybe we should ask why. For instance why would people want to hire whites over blacks? There must be a reason. Find that reason and you'll find out why there is a so called white privilege. Personally I don't think it's a race thing at all.

 

Can you give us a list of black privileges?

I understand what you are getting at but real privilege requires a lot of money which most people, black or white, do not have in abundance. The real enemy, as I see it, are the banks and large corporations.

If you're black and you make the right choices, congratulations you're an outstanding citizen! And you didn't fall into the trap that your "race" meant that society owed you something. Middle class blacks are to be aspired towards, but unfortunately many still see "street cred" as relevant.

 

History shows that I am correct. Money gets you better justice. More poor white folks than black in this country. Now is it "white privilege" that blacks commit so much crime ? 52% of all homicides, for instance ? Like I said, blacks make poor choices, and its white privilege to blame. Just ask any "I dindoo nuffin" in jail.

"Upper class" privilege would be a much more useful term.

It is true that few upper class whites are able to recognize every single member of their club, which is why they accord a modicum amount of politeness to most whites. However, they tend to see white individuals in obvious roles (gas station attendants, etc) as a faceless glob.

There are also upper class blacks, so they sometimes screw up out of laziness.

There is also black privilege, for example in buffet serving lines where black servers tend to wait on blacks first, etc.

It is also true that if a person is in an area where people of their race are not usually seen they will be more noticed. Additionally, a person of a different race will often be looked at longer because it is sometimes more difficult for some others to recognize people they know as easily if they are of a different race. I have, for example, always been able to recognize people I know of my own race fairly easily even years later, but I have more difficulty with this with people of other races than my own--especially with people I knew as kids that are now adults.

While it's real, and the blame is indeed in the cases presented in the OP in the hands on people who give people with white sounding names a much higher chance because they get far more often invited in job interviews.

Now, you didn't know how to obtain a job interview to than wonder what a black/white name is.
