What an absurd statement. He can only pick ONE person.

I appreciate your honest post. And I have no doubt that this was your own argument. No disrespect intended.

it's always discriminatory when you have to chose one person from millions of candidates. It's just a question of who needs to be represented. Black people are not proportionally represented in Congress. In any case, it's only for a few months.

Have you ever interviewed or hired someone? Free advice, don't go on TV and say you're only considering people of a specific race and/or sex for the position. There are laws against that and you are not politically connected enough for the business your represent to not be successfully sued. And, then you'll probably get fired for cause due to being a public racist and opening the business to legal liability.

Politicians pander, on the left and the right. So yes, some on the left will admit that.

OK, so lets see if I get this right. California's Governor chooses a well qualified black woman for a temporary Senate vacancy, as he said he would. One person for one temporary job. One lone black woman in the Senate. And you want to claim this is some great attack on white people, who are VASTLY over-represented in Congress.

Here is the problem - you don't think ANY woman should be in Congress. At all. You made that very clear recently. It literally would not matter who she was or what she had done, you would NEVER vote for her:

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index.php?threads/why-modern-women-make-poor-political-leaders.613351/

So your 'moral logic' is that politics should be a male only domain. Not really a good position to be criticizing anyone for their selection criteria.

With her the US senate has 4 black senators out of 100. By your calculation there should be 9 more.

Gee, you are making a strong argument for going back to the rule of white males. Basically the America we know has been dismantled since Nixon and nobody thinks it is better than it was back then. Wealth inequality has skyrocketed. Deaths of despair have skyrocketed. Homelessness and drug addiction have reached all time highs. The culture has imploded. We have never been more divided in our history. Is it a really a coincidence that at the same time America went into slow decline, it moved away from competence to diversity at its highest levels? How great could America be if it went back to a meritocracy where the most competent ruled?

His process was discriminatory. The law gives him an exemption but if a business conducted themselves the same way they would be charge as breaking the law and have a civil suit.

She’s not well qualified being she does not reside in the state as the constitution says a senator must. And my vote is a vote. I’m not advocating for laws that ban women from anything. I just won’t vote for a woman and never will.

No I never made that calculation. I’m saying that 87% of the population was exempt from even considering because he shoes off of race. I never said race should be considered did I. In fact I believe it should be as illegal as it is for businesses to hire based on race.

Didn't Trump announce he would pick a woman to be RBG's replacement? Was that sexist?

Hundreds of times! But I see another one who believes that Newsome is "hiring' a Senator.

In an ideology-driven system, everything is about obedience to the doctrine. This is why these systems fail so spectacularly.

We'll put that in the 'things Republicans only care about when Democrats do it' unless you have made some sort of comment here on a current Republican Senator whose primary place of residence has been a different state for his entire term (and before).

She has several houses there & if she hasn't already returned will be very shortly. Sorry, try again.

Straw man noted. I didn't say you wanted laws banning women from holding power, I said you didn't think they should hold power. You made that VERY clear in some detail. Given that you don't think at least 50% of the population (I suspect it is actually more than that) should be in Congress or other positions of power you don't get to judge one person being chosen for one temporary job. You wouldn't have chosen any woman no matter how qualified becaused you think that being a woman is itself a disqualification.

I will at least applaud your honesty. I suspect others here agree with you but lack the courage to say it openly. Doesn't lessen the disgraceful nature of the opinion, but at least you own it.

If Gavin gives his staff group identity traits that the candidate MUST have in order to be hired...does it really matter with regards to this thread as to who did the hiring?

Or was this some lame attempt at being clever?

I can think of a few examples of a demand for ideological purity. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger being drummed out of the POT for having the audacity to honor their oath of office and help investigate a failed coup. Kevin being voted out as Speaker for the outlandish act of working across the aisle to temporarily fund the government. Mitt Romney and former members of the Trump admin being thrown under the bus for expressing their observations about what they saw during the error of Trump. The Following making threats of violence against people who participate in the system of justice trying to hold the Orange Wrecking Ball to account for his crimes. The mob chanting "hang Mike Pence" because of Mike's fidelity to the Constitution, not Don.

A senator is not his staff. A senator represents the PEOPLE. Black women are not adequately represented in Congress.

But that's not my point. I would see no problem whatsoever in him adding any minority to his staff if they are underrepresented. My point, though, is that there are HUNDREDS of people who are capable of being a Senator. Extremists on the right are outraged because they don't think it possible that a black women could do the job. Racism has taken over the Republican party, and it has infected people who, even themselves might not be racist

"Newsom renewed his pledge to pick a Black woman earlier this month on “Meet the Press”"

When you lay down those guidelines based on identity, you are being both RACIST and SEXIST. Everything the democrats claim to not be.

If you bought the nonsense white supremacists have been trying to push that there is such thing as racism against White Christian Males, then there is no hope for you.
