According to this report, the Tuareg of northern Mali have been the big losers in the recent revolt. The virtual crushing of the MNLA and the fleeing of many Tuareg to several neighboring African countries means that Al-Qaeda in the Maghrib now has firm control over the Saharan part of Mali while the uneasy compromise new government in the South (partly civilian and partly military and only partly legitimate) is making lots of noises about taking on the jihadis.

How much help should we give the southern Mali government? We certainly don't want another Al-Qaeda outpost (look at how much effort we've put into Afghanistan) and the government forces aren't exactly well-equipped or overwhelming. Should we send some Special Forces and/or some airpower to lend a hand? It worked with the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan, after all.

Its amazing how these Islamists act in the exact fashion Islamophobes such as Robert Spencer say. Have they read too many of Spencer's books and been brainwashed like all the other Islamophobes or perhaps they understand Islam? Hmm this is a tough one, i may have to phone a friend for help.

You're quite out of date, Litwin. The Tuareg took a real beating from the Islamo-fascists, and they're trying to recover, while various forces came to the aid of the south (starting with the French) and the Islamo-fascists are on the run but not yet defeated.

What place the Tuareg and the MNLA will have will depend on how strong they look and how much help they give to defeat the Islamo-fascists. The fact that they have been assisting the French troops tells you how much things have changed in only a year.

MNLA thinks that malis army is a bigger danger then Saudi - wahhabists . wahhabi radicalism has very little support in Tuareg culture

Then why is the MNLA currently shooting at AQIM instead of the Mali army?

i can only guess , AQIM is too controversial, too radical and MNLA made some kind of deal with French and Mali government ? as i told you before wahhabi ideology doest suit Tuaregs´way of life: women role, rich music culture etc.
