At the end of WWII in Europe, General George Patton, known as no fan of the Soviets, lobbied to rearm the defeated Axis forces and invade the Soviet Union, depose Stalin and institute an Allied controlled government instead of communism.

Of course the Allied Command cringed at Patton's suggestion. But could we have defeated the Soviets? Let's not forget that we were a nuclear capable force with the ability to deliver nuclear weapons to major Soviet population and industrial centers. Allied air forces would have overwhelmed the Soviets who were still flying bi-planes.

Could the Allies have defeated the Soviets? What are your thoughts?

we could have used A bombs but production was very slow.Russia is vast and by 1945 had a massive military machine and relatively modern air force.By that time their biplanes were only being used for night harassment and guerrilla insertion missions. The only way I see we could have pulled it off was to finish Japan first. That would allow a two front attack by the allies . Their navy was probably their weakest point and could not stop an amphibious assault on the pacific side. using Wehrmacht volunteers would also be an option.

We by no means had sufficient atomic weapons at that time. We would have needed LOTS of them.
They had relocated factories East of the Ural mountains.
Their tanks were superior and they had plenty of them.
I doubt there would have been public support - the US people had been sold on the idea that Russia was our ally, and the "double-speak" of Orwell's 1984 had not yet been perfected.
    Casualties would have been enormous.
It took nearly a year to get from Normandy into Germany - and the rooskies had defeated the Nazis - with the huge distances involved, it would have taken a L O N G time.

We had NO nuclear bombs ready. Fat man and Little boy, were used on Japan and that was it for a few years.

We would have had our asses handed to us.
Remember, "Land War in Asia". Russia / USSR counts as Asia.
