Let's be honest for a moment. I don't think there are a great many surprises on this forum in terms of which side of this issue different people took up in light of their other posts here. While there might be a general feeling of wanting "justice" and to know the "truth", there is enough room here to hope the truth favors one side or the other and to tilt the benifit of the doubt towards one side or the other. So I'm curious what underlying issues are that get people to spend time going through Zimmerman/Trayvon related transcripts and posting here. In regard to the neighborhood watch or homeowner related laws/rights, I'm refering to the balance between things like being able to call the cops because someone suspicious is on your lawn or to be able to follow someone/get out of your car, vs being able to wander about without people being able to call the cops, follow, or get near someone. Things of that nature.
SYG is a pile of garbage, drafted by a fascist conspiracy and funded by the Koch roaches, who run a post-election bribery festival for mushy-headed legislators who need to be taught how to best serve the whims of their fascist owners. It would allow a deranged SOB to smoke a passerby and say he looked threatening and not owe anything for his mistake. This is feudalism. (That is probably why the Koch roaches like the idea.)
I was going to say that stand your ground didn't come up in the Zimmerman case, however regardless of that those laws are being scrutinized in light of all this. So I guess that's valid.
I am white, I pack, and I have worked in residential security. I also hate white nationalists and idiots who want to go back to segregation. "Hating whitey" is not a big factor in the group identity of most non-whites, nor is self-hate a big thing among liberals. You people just need to stop trying to attribute thoughts and feelings to liberals without some basis in fact.
I wish the Kochs were fascists or feudalists. Truth is, while I'm glad Trayvon got shot, I'm unhappy that Zimmerman got off free.
When I first heard the story, I thought Zimmerman was guilty of murder or at the least aggravated manslaughter. However, the more facts about the story I heard the less sure I was about Zimmerman's guilt, and I'm now of the opinion that the jury made the right decision on all charges. The pictures of Zimmerman's bloody scalp was the start of my change of mind. The testimony of the witnesses at the trial confirmed it. That said, I do believe that Zimmerman was foolish. He shouldn't have left his car. That said, I don't think that his leaving his car was worthy of a beatdown by Martin. I do beleive that Zimmerman would have been killed had he not shot Martin. I feel sorry for all the families involved. I can't imagine losing a son. I also can't imagine how it must be to have a target on my back at all times. - - - Updated - - - Opposite of my view. I wish Trayvon hadn't been shot, but I feel justice was served by Zimmerman getting off free from legal consequences.
