That is why we have the law laid out as it is. That is why is costs so much for both people involved to get a divorce.

But I believe in freedom. Even if people think that freedom is wrong, such as one person choosing to break their vows by having an affair. The person who has been hurt may seek a divorce and compensation for their partner's indiscretions.

I don't think two people who no longer want to be together, or even one of those two people who no longer wants to be with their partner, for whatever reason, should be forced to remain so. That would be stripping them of their freedom to choose and granting too much power to the other individual to control their partner and that is wrong. Not to mention honor and vows are rather worthless if people are forced to obey. People with real honor will follow through with their vows. Those who do not are people not worth remaining with anyways.

I can see that we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one. We are approaching the issue with two different value priorities. Suffice it to say that, per my original statement, marriage is (according to my values) an institution now too meaningless and corrupt to bother defending it from further degradation. I throw it to the dogs.

When I say "throw it to the dogs", I mean that it is a worthless scrap, a bone with no meat left on it. And a dog is one who will still eat that bone, not realizing that they are just getting garbage (until they choke on it).
