A billboard displaying a message tied to a segregationist "mantra" popular with white supremacists has cropped up outside of Birmingham, Alabama, a city that has seen several racially charged, separatist signs posted in recent years.

AL.com reported Sunday that a billboard reading "Diversity means chasing down the last white person #whitegenocide" was posted on I-59 in St. Clair County.

The news website noted the similarity between the billboard and one posted within Birmingham city limits in June 2013 reading "Anti-racist is a code word for anti-white." AL.com reported that both phrases are attributed to the White Genocide Project, a group composed of white supremacists and segregationists.

The "anti-racist is a code for anti-white" phrase is part of a creed known as the "Mantra" that was written by segregationist Robert Whitaker in the mid-2000s, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The "white genocide" billboard is apparently owned by Dyar Signs. No one with the company was available to comment to AL.com on the sign.

Now, naturally, I'm sure everybody will join me in denouncing this kind of bigotry and hatred. Obviously, nobody would defend this kind of white supremacist poison or even attempt to deflect from it in a timorous manner of showiing support for it.

Right? I mean everybody is going to join me in denouncing this....right?

freedom of speech sucks sometimes... but once upon a time "I have a dream" was an unpopular speech. Unpopular speech MUST be protected more vigilantly than popular speech

Yes, that is quite offensive, but ... they do have the right to voice that bigoted opinion .. as I have the right to learn where it came from and boycott any businesses with which they may be associated, and that would include the billboard company. Oh, yeah - one other thing - encourage others to join with me.

Nope. I fully support this. Are you progressives arguing that these groups should not be allowed to express their opinion?

    - - - Updated - - -

So it's "offensive" to you that some whites don't like the idea of becoming minorities in their own country?

playing devil's advocate.... what happens when a majority supports that opinion voiced? For example.... gays tried to boycott Chic-fil-a over what they believed was offensive and bigoted..... when they did.... it backfired because the majority of Americans didn't think it was anything more than freedom of speech and religion the owner was voicing. And because of that.... led CFA to their most profitable year ever.....

What happens if you (or someone like you) says "the sign is racist, and I refuse to do business with the billboard company (or whomever)" but someone like me thinks it's more important to protect his right to speech than it is for you to not be offended, and his sales go UP for 2015.....

But #whitepriveledge is A-ok right Gorn?

You and anyone supporting that garbage has already signed on to bigotry and hatred and has no standing to lecture anyone else.

The crowd that voted for Obama and won't denounce him for rubbing elbows with Jeremiah Wright and Al Sharpton wants denunciations?

What is this thread, Cap'n - an exposition of "progressive" pretenses and hypocrisy?

Nope. That's not offensive at all. The billboard was offensive, however.

A majority may indeed support that opinion, but my opinion is that majority is wrong. As for the chicken sandwich folks, they were busily opening a lot more locations in the years prior to, and after, their bigotry at the top became public knowledge. BUT - they do make a damn good chicken sandwich, so that just might have had something to do with their record sales rather than some alleged anti-boycott fervor (tho that was evident on occasion). It's also worth noting that since then, they have backed away from their strident opposition to gays and gay marriage, so something worthwhile was gained after all. Also, Dan Cathy has taken steps to mollify the gay community.

False analogy. I never said he didn't have a right to his bigoted opinions, nor would I consider using the force of law to restrain that form of bigotry. Therefore, his right to say what's on his mind about minorities is, as far as I'm concerned, fully protected.

    Is this surprising?

Look around the forum. Anti black racism is alive an well, thriving in the cowardly shadows that is the anonymity of the internet.

I find it rather typical that such blatant ignorance would prairie dog in Alabama.

LOL @ people condemning racism while at the same time stereotyping and type casting Alabama. I have found that lack of education goes hand in hand with double standards.

Why? Because some whites who don't like the idea of becoming minorities in their own country put up an advertisement?

Do you fear being treated with the same hatred, disgust, and fear that white nationalists treat others? Do you fear karma will (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) slap white nationalists? Do you fear begin the very thing white nationalists find disgusting?

This is more related to anti-white racism, which is also "alive an(sic) well" on the forum.

No, I fear what America will look like and function like once whites are no longer the majority. I suspect most white people do, even those who claim to love "diversity" from the safety and security of their gated white neighborhoods in predominantly white affluent suburbs.

    I doubt it.

I think white nationalists fear not having someone to blame their failures on, not having a lower class they can point to and deride in order to feel good about themselves.

I think this is spawned out of inadequacy. A sense of failure in life, where one can only bolster themselves by thinking it must be the fault of others that they have achieved so little.

Two different arguments, Brewskier.....I am not saying they shouldn't be allowed to put up their billboard.

Are YOU saying that you support the sentiment or message on that billboard? Yes or No?

without diversity in America, we'd have no pizza, no tacos, no chinese food, no sushi, no perogies, no matzo ball soup, no mango lasis!!!!

what a boring world that would be.
