Further along in the article you'll see they're merely shifting focus ---- just as the focus in America is shifting ---- and Dr. Birx will still be monitoring things closely, and FEMA is already in the loop as well regarding the transition.

"“I think that, as far as the task force, Mike Pence and the task force have done a great job,” Trump said. "But we’re now looking at a little bit of a different form, and that form is safety and opening, and we’ll have a different group probably set up for that.”"

"Pence told NBC News on Tuesday that there is no set date for the task force to formally complete its work but that the panel expects to begin to shift its centralized response back to the individual federal agencies in late May or early June. Pence said the group has already discussed such a transition plan with the Federal Emergency Management Agency."

"Pence also said Birx will continue to offer expertise as the administration monitors infection rates as states begin to reopen."

Just sends a massive signal to the people who were already convinced the threat of COVID-19 is over, or was never there in the first place.

Shifting the focus -> out of focus, I say. Moving the efforts out of focus will make it easier to silence or fire people who object to or contradict the campaign's message.

They make themselves look stupid, as well as those that think Trump's tremendous leadership makes them look stupid.

Task Force Members To Begin Quarantine.

And since they flunked their own most basis metric, they need to now take a vow of silence, as should the most rabid anti-Trumpers.
