The colliqual use of race refers to the broader groups of humans that share similar characteristics, most notably skin colour but also facial features. You know who is white or black; if there was a movie about american slavery, would a white guy fit as a slave? would a black guy be the slave owner? how about a black indian, or white? Now obviously there were probably some white slave or something, but think generally. But you see, that you already know; that these are different groups; indians weren't black and vice versa. it's folly to deny it, as it's plainly obvious. Note that i'm not mentioning genetics, because i quite frankly don't give a damn, but only appearance.

I am familiar with the original meaning of race and its use. Its is only in the past 50 years that science has redefined the way we look at ourselves. Mitochondrial DNA analysis over geographically diverse populations has proven that we all have a common ancestor and that these genes are shared accross all of the "races". This means that in substance we are all the same. Intellectually this makes the notion of racial hatred obsolete. I can understand that pespective given inbred xenophobia. Some can't get passed appearance. Personally I will always choose substance over appearance. It reminds me of the ol' Saturday Night Live "fernando" skit. Its not how good you feel, it how good you look. (and you look mahhhvelllous)
There is nothing offensive in the term 'race', and we cannot just let scientists decide on terms, all of the time, I am sure the biological aspects are interesting and everything, but, in the end, they are not gods either, are they, and just because some of them may not use the term now, does not mean the term itself is redundant. Of course there are distinct races, I even see it on forms, you tick, white, black, etc, what is the fuss? It is simply a term that disinguishes the fact that different groups of people, look remarkably different. And I like it that way. I like the variety of the different people, worldwide, and I think it would be 10x better, if we could return to the days, pre this globlisation and multi cultural BS, that nations were not mixed up to this degree, and that when you went to say Greece, you saw traditional Greek eateries, and NOT a MacDonalds and a Starmucks. Are you sure about this? i mean that older nations , say Zulus carry the same mutations with Khmer? I can understand Khmer having Zulu genes because they are a branch of Africans but the opposite sounds a bit off, note that i am not very familiar with matrelinear lines . Sure races exist but they do not matter since they are all transitional specially in the modern era where natural selection doesn't exist or if it does it is very limited . Physically and psychologically people usually get traits related to their environment , for example Turks and Spaniards have nothing historical or cultural in common but if you see both of them eating in a restaurant without talking you can hardly say who is who. Black Americans were bred for muscle so it is not surprising that they have thicker bones , i am not familiar with the medical causes behind bone thickness but from what i can remember usually heavy meat diet species develop them.

Race has nothing to do with culture. this difference is found not just in Black americans, but also africans, which indicates that slave eugenics is not a factor in the analysis. Since this increased density appears in early childhood it is suspected it's development is hormonal in nature.
