A white supremacist who killed 10 Black people at a Buffalo supermarket was sentenced to life in prison without parole Wednesday after relatives of his victims confronted him with pain and rage caused by his racist attack. Anger briefly turned physical at Payton Gendron’s sentencing when a victim’s family member rushed at him from the audience. The man was quickly restrained; prosecutors later said he wouldn’t be charged. The proceeding then resumed with an emotional outpouring from people who lost loved ones or were themselves wounded in the attack. Gendron, whose hatred was fueled by racist conspiracy theories he encountered online, cried during some of the testimony and apologized to victims and their families in a brief statement. Their remarks ranged from sorrow to outrage, shouts to tears. Some vehemently condemned him; others quoted from the Bible or said they were praying for him. Several pointed out that he deliberately attacked a Black community a three-hour drive from his home in overwhelmingly white Conklin, New York. https://apnews.com/article/legal-pr...me-terrorism-a13cf95d1fbecfa64571de87d2ccfa8a Got what he deserved.
"Anger briefly turned physical at Payton Gendron’s sentencing when a victim’s family member rushed at him from the audience. The man was quickly restrained; prosecutors later said he wouldn’t be charged." As if someone was gonna have the balls to charge him with something.
For sociopaths like that being locked up where they can still spew their crap is not suffering. It would be if they were locked in a supermax with no contact.
Definitely... Let’s call the Buffalo shooter what he is — a radical MAGA terrorist Self-described fascist and white supremacist Payton Gendron gunned down people in a New York grocery store, killing ten and injuring two. He wrote an ideological manifesto infused with racism. By the Republican Party’s own definition, this is terrorism. So why do so many members of MAGAland not want to say it? https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/buffalo-shooter-payton-gendron-manifesto-maga-b2080259.html
If it is life and not death it needs to be in the hole until he dies. No chess, no books, no radio, no visitors, no letters, nothing. But even with this others need to be deterred, and it doesn't do it. A speedy publicized execution via electric chair would be best.
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
That was taken from the English bill of rights after the civil war when people were disemboweled and really tortured. The English in 1689 nor the Framers in 1789 would consider this cruel or unusual. Not even close.
Couple amendments before that one is the one that allows people to be denied their rights to life and liberty by the federal government as later extended to the states by the 14th amendment.
Yes and the 14th. Clearly the ability of the government to end someone's life was envisioned and enshrined in the US Constitution.
With due process. Due process gave this guy life. We are not animals. We do not torture prisoners because we feel like it.
He'll now have to face federal charges. Not that it's going to make a difference as he's already going to serve life in prison without parole, but Buffalo Shooting Suspect Payton Gendron Indicted On 27 Federal Charges—Including Hate Crimes And Weapons (forbes.com)
That does seem bizarre to me. What type of racist conspiracy theories would make someone want to kill random black people? That does seem kind of crazy and insane. I would really like more information and details about what exactly those "conspiracy theories" were, otherwise I am going to be skeptical about what the actual motivations were.
And this story just illustrates how absurd and stupid "hate crime" charges actually are. Anyone who kills a crowd of 10 black people should not be punished any more than if the crowd had consisted of 5 black people and 5 white people. Is the first really any worse than the second? Even if any of you buy the argument "this is terrorizing a community", how would "terrorizing" a racial group be any worse than terrorizing humanity as a group in general?
No because if someone kills 5 white people, they are actually loving them to death therefore not a hate crime. Also, they are not the same level of dead. Just like if a 10 black guys kill 10 black guys over 10 days, they are less dead than if one white guy kills 10 black guys in one day. Clearly the 10 black guys are more deader in the second case. To make matters worse, they are then even more deader if the guy uses an AR-15.
Question: If a white person kills members of the black race, can black people file a class action civil lawsuit against the person, seeking money, or do you have to be members of that victim's immediate family? (I hope you can all tell this is sarcasm. I'm not a supporter of the notion of "blood money")
This guy should get the same treatment as Jan. 6 rioters? In other words, is this guy as heinous as Jan. 6 rioters?
