In another blow to pregnant women who need services in the state of Michigan, Governor Whitmer struck the funding for pregnancy centers from the state’s budget this week.

Republicans in the state of Michigan reacted strongly to Whitmer’s line vetoes which directly target pro-life initiatives. They are saying that by Whitmer striking these services from the budget, she is callously limiting women’s real-life choices rather than expanding them.

Whitmer’s vetoes “support only one option for women in a crisis pregnancy — the deadly choice of abortion,” said State Rep. Thomas Albert, chair of the House Appropriations Committee.

“It is shocking that the governor, and her far-left political base, are now so extreme that helping pregnant women who might consider adoption instead is now a bridge too far,” Albert said.

Whitmer’s budget slashing would remove $20 million in funds that would normally be allocated to adoption agencies and pregnancy centers. Whitmer is claiming that these are “anti-choice” programs and that if the state were to increase or maintain funding for these programs, it would encourage adoption and carrying a child to full term. What an awful thought.…

his Governor is a wicked witch! She’s trying to cut off women who choose to bring an unexpected baby to term from support and resources. She’s cutting off funding for state adoption agencies. She’s afraid some women might choose life and let a couple or family adopt her child

It is beneath contempt that the witch would cut off funding to those providing pre natal care and post birth support for both the mother and child as well as for connecting families with new born children.

Democrat Politicians want Big Government Control over Americans.

That's why for over 30+ years, Democrat Politicians states are so far deep into debt.

and the only way they contine to get out, is to take taxes from the American people Federally.
Then, their states look clean again, like they've been doing a good job.

But in reality, they can't budget their states at all. That's why, they keep doing things against the American people's will and get away with it. Like defunding the Police, or defunding pregnancies, whilst, talking about women's rights. the hypocrites!

    sick and evil!

And now the blue states are in a competition to see which can kill the most babies the latest onto their human development and who can deny expectant mothers and their children the most care, and which can disrupt adoption the most.

    The irony here is breathtaking.

No Pro-Life Republican has any right whatsoever to criticize a Democrat for "limiting women's real-life choices rather than expanding them".

    Not a one.

I'll agree that Whitmer is being petty and this is not how you respond to the Roe decision, but that's because I believe women should have all the health care options available to them.

If I were someone who believed I should have the authority to take away a woman's right and access to abortion and then turn around be outraged when the same thing is done in a way I don't like, I'd just be one giant festering hypocrite.

The irony here is an anti life woman taking away choices of other women who might protect and preserve life.

Yes, Whitmer's actions are petty. Pro-Lifer's just have no standing to call her out on it because they are in favor of taking away health care options too.

So, not to nitpick here, but the decision that you're actually referring to is the Dobbs case which overturned Roe and Casey. And to be super honest here, abortion wasn't outlawed. It simply removed the unconstitutional decisions to make abortion a federal decision.

And just to be open and transparent here, democrats, should they be able to legislate in the states, or frankly at the federal level could solve this whenever they want. Stop crying about a decision that simply rebalanced the power of government and confusing that with a restriction on women. Because it isn't.

Women already do have all medical and health care options available to them. Stop inventing a world that they don't. Abortion in a very very limited number of cases does effect a woman's health. Being pregnant isn't a disease suddenly, is it? So why conflate that it is.

Yes yes yes we've all heard the nuance. And we all know what the ultimate goal of most Pro-lifers is. And we all know it will become reality in some of the more conservative states.

You feel free to hide in the semantics of it if you'd like. I'm sure you've got your own reasons for that.

Saying that it "rebalanced the power of government" does not make that the ONLY thing it did. It ALSO created a very real very tangible restriction on women. That's cause and effect.

Nobody suggested being pregnant was a disease except you. Pregnancy is part of health and the option to end one is a health care decision. Except, in places where it now won't be.

So if you're okay with restricting women in some cases, you've really got no standing to complain when others do it too.

But if you ask me? Both Whitmer and the Pro-Lifers are doing the same exact things for the same exact petty stupid reasons.

Yawn.. Yes, she is a petty tyrant. It's what she's known for. She is also limiting health options for her citizens. Ironic huh... The truth is that abortion isn't health care. In the vast majority of cases, it's a financial decision that doesn't consider health of the woman. So why assert what you know is a mostly false narrative here? Democrats finally admitted that the vast majority of abortion is for the financial well being of the woman, meaning she can continue to be "productive in the workforce".. That doesn't seem to be "health care" to me. But you can pretend whatever you want.. k?

Whitmer and her ilk should stop referring to themselves as being pro-choice. This decision reveals that they are really pro-abortion and anti-choice. Why else punish the women who chose to keep the fetus?
