Leaving aside whose more corrupt for a moment, should our aid to Ukraine be 'unconditional'? Now, while the argument during the impeachment saga was that Trump was using this to get info on Joe Biden, in 2014 the American People were polled and back then 94% of us rightly said we didn't want our money going into this corrupt affair.

What has changed in a decade? Nothing. Like, we felt bad about the Darfur genocide, but after previous failed interventions that was the one that Clinton thankfully spared us from. In truth, the then-President did us a favor by freezing the aid none of us wanted to give them and at the present day they clearly still have failed to provide a government for their own people.

Meanwhile, their president knowing full well the gullibility and the weakness of the American Politician plays to their 'commitments' and tells us that if we don't pay up then we're definitely going to have to send forces(why? Certainly not in our interests). This is the swan song of Woodrow Wilson. This is the Wilsonism legacy. The international community's vice grip on the United States.

If we want to provide for their own defense, that's what the U.N peacekeeping forces are for. If I were POTUS, I would be trying to use the U.N in an active role to resolve this issue.
