Who would be stupid enough to want to stick their head up trump’s ass for four years?
    Nobody in their right mind.
That only leaves the pillow guy, and maybe mtg and the loser from Arizona who still thinks she’s the new governor.

While I appreciate your thinking on the matter, I think you will be surprised at just how many in the GOP, will go to humiliating lengths, to ride Trump's coattails.

Well, in that group might also be Elise Stefanik. At least, she will fit the loyalty criterion.

The bigger question is more of finding someone, who having seen criminal defendant Trump's behavior over the last 7 years, who is willing to have this albatross around his or her neck for the rest of his or her life.

There's gonna be a lot of "Gee, I'm sorry, Mr. Criminal Defendant Trump, but I can't be your running-mate. Äääähm, I have to take my pet turtle to the vet, it has hemmorhoids and the healing is gonna take (looks at watch) about 2 years...."

She is not loyal enough in Trump's world, hence she would not be a likely candidate.

Not really in my opinion. Whoever the nominee is, the GOP will follow the leader no matter who it is. Tim Scott has a very slim chance at winning. DeSantis's star is falling now among the MAGA faithful. The remaining GOP electorate will choose between the remaining candidates who will need to court Trump voters if they win the nomination. But no candidate who is running for the nomination is going to be the VP choice for Trump even if conventional wisdom says so. For MTG, it fits Trump's way of thinking and the test he will require now, and she is probably the front-runner for the VP nomination. And if Trump pushes the standards too far, oh hell, he might even choose his own daughter for the VP slot.

I respect that this is your opinion. l will also point out, however, that you offer no argument, as to why "no candidate who is running for the nomination is going to be the VP candidate." I would argue that it only matters, if Trump views the person as: 1) loyal, and 2) not a threat to his own supremacy.

Based on his muted response to the entrance into the race of Nikki Haley, Trump apparently does not fear her stealing any of his own thunder. Depending on how the campaign progresses, and how the debates play out, it is certainly possible that we could see Haley in the VP spot. While I agree with you that Trump could do whatever he wanted, I also think that he wants a chance to win, and realizes that picking someone like Kari Lake or MTG, is going to make that less likely. A Lake VP would dampen Republican enthusiasm: not that of all Republicans, but certainly of some. While MTG had crossed my own mind for a second, again, I think Trump wants to be the main bomb-thrower, in his campaign, and have more control over what comes out of his VP's mouth, than he could ever hope for, with Greene on the ticket. Trump does not like being embarrassed. Even if he will never say so, he recognizes that Greene lacks class, and any sense, whatsoever, of refinement. Your suggestion of SD Governor, Kristi Noem, then, is the only one I see as a definite possibility.

I still think that Haley, however, does more for the ticket, for those voters who just need to be able to tell themselves, in order to vote for him, that there is some steady, competent hand beside Trump, keeping him from going too far.

As an aside, I personally, also love the idea of a Trump - Haley ticket, because of the way it appears that history is commenting on itself, in advance; that is, phonetically, when you put those two names together, because of the letter combination of "ph," translating as an "f" sound, you get :
    Trump Fail(y).

If you included loyalty in your OP and truly meant it, then you know and understand this is not how Trump thinks. Conventional wisdom is not Trump's strong point politically. And I am not a Trump fan, but an outsider looking in type of thing. For my argument, it is that the person will be the VP who is not running against him because in Trump's mind that shows disloyalty. You are giving Trump way too much credit here and Trump does not do what most people do. He has never done that in his entire professional life beginning with using Junk Bonds to build a damn casino and moving on from there.

I don't see Nikki Haley as a person who will be his VP. They have major policy disagreements on certain issues, and are on the same page with others. For instance, they are on the same page as to "America First" but Nikki Haley is not going to disparage anyone intentionally the way Trump wants, and that is the straw that will break the camel back, figuratively speaking, and why Nikki Haley will not be the VP nominee but someone like Keri Lake and MTG would do that in a heartbeat without a moment's thought. But the number one goal is Trump wants absolute loyalty, and I will emphasize absolute here. I think your OP point about loyalty did not emphasize that enough or underestimate what Trump really wants. He has signaled this with his statements about "scorch earth" and punishing anyone and everyone who was disloyal to him. Some argue he is just being politically provocative to get his name in the news on what he said, but his followers, the ones Trump listens to the most, take that in a very literal sense and will damn well make sure that anyone Trump thinks is disloyal to the cause will not get the job in government, including VP. If Trump has no response to Nikki Haley, then to Trump Haley is not a threat to him politically. He may be right. Right now, the only one who is a threat to him is DeSantis and Trump is focused on that threat like a laser beam. So, I would not be so quaint in misinterpreting the silence as approval.

I know you like the idea of the Trump-Haley ticket, but the imagary, a Trump knows something about, is not going to fly and that too is just another reason why he will reject it. Trump wants to manipulate what you see and hear in his message. We saw this the moment he launched his campaign in 2015 with most of the people there being paid participants. We didn't find that our later, but it won't suprise me from now until the nomination or the general election, whichever applies, Trump will try to manipulate the media and messaging to his liking, the more flamboyant and derogatory, the better for him. The only question will be will the voters fall for that again as they did in 2016. 50/50 chance at best.

You think Trump will figure out "Trump Faily?" Now it is you, who gives Trump too much credit.

Your four arguments against Haley, then, would be:
    1) Trump cannot forgive the disloyalty of running against him;
    2) Trump is unconventional;
    3) He & Haley have some major policy disagreements; and
    4) He will want a Vice President who talks trash.

    Taking those in reverse order:
#4: Trump's last VP, Pence, was not the type to "disparage anyone intentionally," even moreso than Haley, who is capable of some harsh words, when the occasion calls for them. This is hardly an area, in which Trump needs assistance, from his number two.

#3: Presidents and VPs, quite often, personally disagree on issues; after all, they are oftentimes two people who'd run against each other, in the preceding Primary. That is not a problem, because it is the understood protocol, that the VP supports the President's policies. Haley understands this. As long as Trump is convinced that she will support him, unquestioningly, current disagreements over policy don't mean much.

There is one caveat, which I'd overlooked, which would be a question mark: Ukraine policy. I believe Haley supports our strong aid, to resist Russian aggression. Trump, it can be assumed, would want to reduce or even end that assistance. I don't think either of us, however, can say for sure, what kind of deal with the devil, Haley might be willing to accept. There are a glut of examples of people who compromised their principles, with Trump, & yet justified it, to themselves.

#2: The choice of Mike Pence, the last time, once more showed that, while willing to be unconventional, Trump does have a sense of what will sell. Pence's character was completely out of synch with Trump's, but Trump realized he needed someone with both political legitimacy, and someone to clean up the ticket's overall moral image, for the Christian Fundamentalist vote. Trump is strategic, or at least tactically competent. Note his effecting his "rust belt" strategy, to beat Clinton. Just because this was "unconventional," does not mean that it was stupid, which is what putting Lake or Greene on the ticket with him, would be.

In fact, I point you to Mr. Trump's greatest legislative achievement: a big tax cut for the rich-- hardly an unconventional move. Trump's appeal to Populism, also, by its nature, is very conventional. In short, your assumption that anything that makes sense from a conventional perspective, is ipso facto, out of the question for Trump, I have just given examples, to show is your false over-generalization. It makes no sense to pick the most obedient person, if that will cost him votes. Instead, Trump will pick the most loyal person who will be an advantage, to have on the ticket.

#1: Lastly, after the things that Kevin McCarthy said about Trump-- if there was anything to your charge that Trump is incapable of working with anyone who goes against him-- there would have been no way he would have supported Kevin's Speakership: but Trump did support it. Lindsey Graham, also, said things against Trump after J6-- now they're golf buddies. Trump even, to all signs, bore no grudge against any of the candidates who disparaged him, in the Primary, but who continued on in the Senate or House, such as Senators Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz, though there were certainly nasty words exchanged.

Once more, actual events, belie your theories about Trump.

I think Alec Baldwin would be a good VP pick as well, He has celebrity cred, is HIGH ABOVE the law, AND he can be the one Trump puts in charge of gun control. Especially those nasty SELF-SHOOTING revolvers

Do you not realize that Baldwin has been very public about his intense hatred of Trump? Unlike Tucker Carlson, however, Baldwin is a Democrat, and would surely not be willing to sell his soul, just for a little power.

Nevertheless, I realize that you had probably been kidding.

You'd forgotten to mention, Baldwin could even serve as a body double, a Presidential decoy (assuming you've seen his SNL version of Trump).

By the way, there is a gun, that is known to fire bullets, on its own. The SIG Sauer P320 pistol, has reportedly wounded 80 people who say that they never pulled the trigger; many of these, are members of law enforcement. I'd heard that it was an earlier model, but one which is still out there, which has an inner safety; no safety switch, on the outer part of the gun. Don't ask me how that is supposed to work-- here is an article on it:

My favorite Trump was Fallon's but Baldwin's was ok. That gun story you mentioned reminds me of breaking bad final episode. I will have to google it.

I don't consider Trump intellectually smart, but he does have a knack at imagery though, and has been doing it ever since the 1980s through trial and error.

And you may want to look at all the times that Trump did not follow conventional wisdom.

Let's look at Mike Pence and how he got the nomination. Who was Trump listening to? One of them was Paula White, the evangelical, who is best buds with someone named Pence. So, Trump tapped him as VP because we was assured he was loyal and a good soldier in Trump world. And MAGA people were evangelical Christians, well, they still are but more extreme now, and that is why he got the nomination because of who trump listened to at that time. But when push came to shove, Mike Pence did the honorable thing, he denied the election deniers who were in Trump's ear at the time and Trump was desperate in remain in power. How did Trump repay this, he was called a Traitor, disloyal, and much, much worse. It is why Pence will not get the nomination because on that fateful day on January 6th, Trump is still trying to rehash the 2020 election lies even now as part of his platform. Enter Kari Lake, MTG, or even Kristi Noem. The key to my argument is who is Trump listening to right now, and that is his loyal supporters who pretty much stroke his ego, among other things. So, let's take a look from a Trump historical perspective. In the beginning, Trump chose wisely, but again, you must look at who he was listening to. Whether it was Sessions for AG, Matthis for DoD, and so forth, most of his cabinet members were either fired or disparaged or both via Twitter, constantly. So, if you look at debits, rational thinking, vs credits, and how Trump reacts when someone is disloyal to him, the credits far outweigh the debits, bar none. So, do you think Trump will take a chance with someone like Haley again? I think not because Trump will want no questions asked type of thing and will pretty much demand it one way or another. The media wont know initially, but will eventually find out one way or another. And it is all based on who is Trump listening to now. His circle of friends are a hell of a lot smaller than it was in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, or even 2020.

I do agree with you in a general sense, but Trump is not like any other person running for president. Never has been and never will be. What you spoke about is conventional wisdom, much like a Reagan-Bush ticket, a conservative and a moderate, and both acted gentlemanly. Trump does not act gentlemanly in politics. Or we can look at Bush, a social conservative, and Cheney, a traditional conservative on most issues, but liberal or moderate on social issues. Or even an Obama-Biden ticket. But again, Trump does not think that way. It is all about stroking his ego, stroking his brand, stroking his ideas to the nth degree. Hence it is not conventional wisdom prevailing here, not in the least.

Finally, Trump is very apt at getting what he wants. He has built a career, an image, in doing this. However, it is mostly smoke and mirrors mostly. Trump says a lot of things. He exaggerates on a lot of things. He lies about even the smallest stuff possible. This is all done to stroke his ego, his persona who he quite literally believes he does no wrong in any way whatsoever. But when it comes to the GOP, Trump is counting on one thing, the 11th commandment, Thou Shall Not Speak Ill of Fellow Republicans. Trump wants others to do this, but Trump has never followed this rule, has he? So, this is more on the GOP more so than Trump. The GOP wants desperately to win the WH and they are quite literally, willing to make a deal with the devil in doing so. I am not saying Trump is the Devil in a literal sense, but the GOP has been moving this way for quite sometime and Trump was able to exploit that for his own purposes.

So, I do not think think and have argued that your conventional wisdom will hold true. It will more than likely be a Nikki Haley-McCarthy Ticket if that were to happen.

So in essence, my four main points are as follows:
    1. Look at who is Trump is listening to right this moment
    2. Look at Trump and what he really wants. He is desperate for the WH again, but he will not get burned like he did in his last administration with many of the people whom he was talked into hiring.
    3. Trump wants absolute loyalty, no questions asked, publicly or privately.
    4. He wants a VP to be more like him so he can stroke his ego even more.

Could you please try to fix your post? My main, quoted section does not appear in a quote box, probably because you begin that second quote, with: "[/QUOTE]."

    Breaking News, June 2024:

"Former President and multiple criminal defendant Donald J. Trump has selected a new AI Chatbot named 'I always call him SIR' to be his running mate in the November 2024 general election. This particular AI Chatbot is also programmed to serve KFC and Diet Coke to the prospective nominee any time of day and is always on call for his russian prostitute wishes".

    There. Problem solved.

For a lot of different reasons, I don't see how Trump could be elected no matter who he would have as a running mate. That said, there is no doubt in my mind that in a debate between Nikki Haley and Kamala Harris, Kamala would wish afterwards that she had never even walked out onto the stage. She's a complete ZERO.

By most accounts he is considering MArjorie Taylor Greene.

Can you imagine how much between the two of them they would abuse their office to seek vengence upon those they hate? It scares me more than just a little.
