Recently on some radio program maybe Dr Delilah or something they were discussing how we have become much angrier as a people in recent decades and discussed incident of rage with celebrities and regular people through police reports and news stories.

Anyways it was suggested that the spike in rage has to do with 3 things working more hours, technology, and hopelessness feeling that things are so bad it is hopeless.

Well do you feel more angry and bitter these days if so please explain why and thanks?

    Just as a tip:

I noticed the first thread you created was here. Be advised the most active sections are Current Events and Political Opinions, other sections get little traffic. So if you're looking for a lot of responses, go there.

Right wingers are always angry and prejudiced against anyone who dares to disagree with them. Ironically, so many of them claim to be "Christian" and fail to heed Jesus's teachings about LOVING everyone regardless of who or what they are. When you remind these hypocrites that they are supposed to share the wealth they have fits of rage and hate that are unmatchable in their ferocity.

Having some form of anger is normal and can be expected from anyone. But it is highly ironic that so many who claim to worship the Prince of Peace should be so virulent in their anger and so willing to kill in his name when this is the precise opposite of what they are supposed to do.

The solution to do is for them to actually READ and OBEY the laws that they purport to believe in. This will make ours a more peaceful and stable society. If Jesus was here, this is precisely what he would demand. Anyone who denies that hasn't read the Bible.

I think those reasons are a large part of it, but I think most of the growing anger can be summed up in expectations that aren't met, and expectations are changing. Now that'd not to say the these expectations are always valid, but the validity of expectations have little to do with whether or not people will be angry.

Of the three you mentioned, I find issue with the tech and hopelessness, because they are so open and vague. Speaking on people bring overworked, I think that overworked people are upset because of failed expectations. People worked a TON in ages past without being particularly angry people. Thinking of the working male, who always has taken on the brunt of the 'official' workload (paid labor outside the home), the male use to understand that he'd work his tail off to provide for his family, but that he'd be appreciated for it. Of course people aren't always appreciated for what they do, but I think this is particularly exacerbated by our changing society. Divorce rates are high, and you have a lot of men who are divorced, whose ex wives are given preference by the courts (mothers get custody in over 90% of court cases), and then the man is left on the hook paying for alimony and child support. While he's paying that, his ex hates him, and teaches his kids to hate him, so fathers end up working themselves to death for a family they barely see, who doesn't love them. That'd make anyone bitter.

In class warfare, its expected now that the rich should be paying more, and so many resent the wealthy, and the wealthy resent being expected to give more than what they feel is their fair share.

These are just two examples - there are always multiple sides, and I don't mean to suggest that men are victims in relationships more than women, but their concerns are overlooked. The problem we have in society is that we have all these expectations that aren't met. You've got vets who were disabled in the service (yo) who are going years without support or compensation. Vets are expected to be taken care of and they're not being taken care of. It goes on and on, but expectations of people are changing, and they're not being met.

Thanks for the advice but honestly I would rather have 5 or 10 really good replies than pages and pages of pointless blather.

    I prefer Quality versus Quantity.

First I do not believe it is working more hours
When you looked at how people had to work when I was young
But first job I was 15
I worked in a factory I started Monday morning And could Not go home until all orders for the week were completed
Which ended up being Wednesday night or Thursday morning
    And a rate of 35¢hr

People were far more in a state of helplessness during the 1930s forties and fifties than they are now
    There were no credit cards
And if you financed anything you Were required to pay least one 3rd down
In many areas you could be arrested and serve at least 30 days Just be cause had no money And did not live in town

It is very unfortunate that most people I see on this board do not realize why there was such a null people in the 1960s
Because we are going Right back to the conditions of the 1930s
Only we cannot shoot our food And we can't pick up coal on the railroad tracks

I believe that anger and violence is more prevalent today many be cause it's more acceptable Throughout most forms of entertainment
    And news

    It is far more

I used to be angry and frustrated when I'd watch the news every evening with my dad. Once I cut the news out of my daily programming I felt a whole lot better about everything.

I used to listen to talk radio in the truck all the time and it drove me half insane listening to the complete anger and despair.

Nowadays I buy audio books and I feel a lot better.

There are a lot of bitter people, usually angry at themselves because for what ever reason they made choices which prevented them from succeeding as they wished. That is especially true of those who don't earn much money as they despise those who have.

I have nothing against hard work but I thoroughly believe that anybody who works should be able to afford housing and the basic necessities and the Right Wing is against anything that benefits the working poor in favor of runaway corporate profits and higher stock prices sorry class warfare is real and its growing.

I agree that is some cases yes people did it to themselves and are failures at their own behest but for many its a rigged game no matter how hard they try and we support a system and allow practices that keep certain classes of people down perpetuating a permanent underclass.

No PROPOGANDA REQUIRED not at all I have REAL LIFE expirience some in recent years and wages are about the same as they were 20 years ago but prices have more than doubled you cannot reasonably expect that people will continue to work even harder in order to maintain a poverty existence and ever declining living standards eventually they just drop out and exploit the system .

I'm not angry, but disenfranchised works well. We are lied to continuously and it goes back a long way in my lifetime where I began to notice. It's just a running joke about politicians lying, but when we become adults we don't just hear the lies, but we feel the effects in our wallets. It just gets old and in the end it's almost like they blame us for them having to lie. As if we're too stupid in society to be able to handle bad news or adjust to conditions that must change.

Debt. Personal debt is destroying people and the rules should never have gotten so lax to allow it to consume the buying power of our lower and middle class. People will do anything to get "things" because we're marketed to 24/7 through any outlet available. But the rules of the game should at least put stops to our ability to borrow because people have little self control, as evident through our consumerist society. When did money down become a foreign concept to buying something? And when did limiting the % of income one can borrow for house, car, etc. become no longer important? It's as if lending is being done without regard for risk, with the borrower buried in debt before they realize there's no way out of it and they lose home, car, etc.

I agree 100% about debt infact if you ask me debt was the driving factor in destroying our marriage now me and my wife had other extreme differences but when our son was finishing High School me and herr decided to call it quits but we were deeply in debt and I honestly believe me and my ex couldve possibly worked out the other problems had we been more financially secure.

It's easy to blame people for taking on too much debt, and we're definitely the major player in the problem, but our financial system should be able to hold people to maximum borrowing power before extending further credit to them. The point of regulation should be partially to prevent we, the stupid, from harming ourselves, whether out of ignorance, lack of education, lack of concern, excessive risk taking or whatever. It's time for us to get told no a little more often if we ever get out of this mess our citizens are in.

I dunno regulation goes against free market principles the Conservatives might beat you up on that one but it should also be said that our last crash was not only caused by the STUPID but greedy lenders who KNEW BETTER but gave them loans anyways knowing they could sell that debt to somebody else.

Any lender who borrows should be forced to hold that note until the loan is paid off or defaulted that would prevent them from lending to unworthy borrowers who had no buisness borrowing in the first place.

Lol of course, no fault at all of the borrowers right? You HAVE to be listening to young turk.

You really have no idea about the legal changes led by Frank and Dodd that led to the crash?

It's so damn true. I work in retail for just a little above minimum wage and they have been cutting my hours and cutting my hours. I am considered part time so they can give me as little as 6 hours a week, which they started to do (It was like having a month vacation with a day of work here and there, seriously...). I bugged my boss like crazy for anything more and he kept going on and on about the payroll just not being there. Finally after several weeks of pestering him he found an opportunity at another store for me. It's a bit of a drive but worth it. I'm now full time with a $2 raise from what I was before. I am extremely greatful for it too because now my fiance is getting HIS hours cut back at his work and he's the hardest worker I know. It's tough times for everyone right now.

I dont know about you but I sure as heck am not going to lend a whino bus fare to Peoria more or less write them a MORTGAGE well COUNTRYWIDE DID so did many others.

Yes you obviously are unaware of shady mortgage brokers, NINJA LOANS, or false appraisals, and adjustible rate mortgages, and freely allowing folks to just cash out equity.

Ya see people are gulible and stupid and there are less than honest buisness people ready to feast.

OK - you didn't take the hint. OK. You've said the crisis was the result of greedy lenders gibing bad loans, namely sub prime mortgages. Are you suggesting then that greed is a new phenomenon? Because unless you are, your argument is fundamentally flawed, as your saying the crisis was caused by things that existed for centuries. You'd need to explain why its suddenly a problem.

Sounds like you need a new career path. Even retail management doesn't pay close to nursing, nor offer the security.
