Nonsense. Trump is the closest we've come to an openly bigoted candidate since Wallace--that is where his appeal begins and ends. It's also the reason why he's loathed by millions of Americans.

Time for some simple and easy to understand math:

Trump got between 13-14 million votes in the GOP primaries, which is indeed record setting. For the GOP, that is.

Of course, that's not the 17-18 million that both Hillary and Obama enjoyed in 2008, but you don't see GOP statisticians wanting to mention this fact.

The problem is that around 130 million people are expected to vote in the fall. Surely most of those 13-14 million (which will be about 10% of the total electorate) who trumpified themselves in the primaries will be back in November - which is just fine with me - but that puts him far shy of the 65-67 million he will need in order to win.

In other words, the hardest of the hardest of the base got him nominated at a convention where more of the GOP hierarchy stayed away, sensing very strongly that his red meat to the base in the primaries is about to become a massive poison pill for the GOP come November....

So, by all means, enjoy his nomination. I am. Very much.

The Democratic Party thanks the Trumpites of the world for nominating Donald Trump.

    Sweet!

Ah Laura, one of the few people who deserve as much scorn as Trump.

Trump won because he's confident and different. For people disillusioned with the status quo, this is appealing. Too bad they don't think more deeply than that.

And Hillary is loathed by millions of people. More people came out to vote in the primaries than ever before. People are sick and disgusted of liberalism. It is ruining our country. People don't want the status quo anymore.
On the other hand, democrats tried a little rebellion of their own with Bernie Sanders. But because the Democrats are corrupt to the core, the system was rigged, and he didn't understand that. He thought he actually had a chance, while all the while, he was there to make it look legit. To make it look as though the Democrats really had a choice, and that it wasn't about Hillary being the only one, which it was.
What is sadder, is that the people get to vote for a corrupt crook, that they supposedly voted for. They didn't call her husband "slick Willie" for no reason. And there are also plenty of names for her, none of which are good. They surround themselves with people who are bought, and who keep their secrets and wrongdoings quiet. She should be a dictator in some Third World country where she could run it into the ground and then walk away.

Yes and that has conclusively demonstrated that the current primary system is incapable of producing a respectable candidate. It is hilarious that after all that effort the Republicans have managed to produce a candidate who is neither a Conservative or a Republican but rather a loose cannon with a remote possibility of actually sinking the ship of America.

Donald Trump became the Republican nominee by dog whistling the bigots and playing to the parochial fear of the talk radio right.

These people normally don't vote in primaries, but they all liked what Trump was selling.

He got a platform because Fox thought they were going to reap the ratings bonanza by blowing Trump up in the first debate.

But Trump, the showman, stole the show from Roger Ailes and Rience Priebus.

Preiebus, and the GOP lost any real control they ever had over their own nominating process that night.

After that, Donald Trump turned the debates into a giant game show, and the television networks handed him the microphone and gave him the stage.

    He made them money.

And the sort of people who believe what they hear on AM right wing talk radio and read in supermarket tabloids voted for him.

Fortunately for the world, that is the outer limit of his market. Even at the convention, little or no effort of any sort is being made to expand that base.

That's one of the more obvious reasons why Trump won't get a post convention bounce. He's still talking to the same audience he talked to in the primaries.

Nope, Laura Ingraham is an attractive woman with a JD and an impressive career. Hilary is an old hag who dresses like Kim Jong Un and.has never had a job. It's not a debatable point.

Nope. Laura is a gutless wonder who exudes a baseless self confidence common in con job Jerks.

Hillary is a life long public servant with a string of achievements. All laura ever really did was whine on the radio and embarrass herself in TV.

None of the above can be gainsaid. Debate over.

He monopolized the 30+ year old, uneducated, male white voters. It's the same demographic he has now in the general. He'll lose by 6+. Not enough of those angry old uneducated dudes to win.

    1. The not-Trump vote divided between too many candidates

What do you know about US politics, anyway? I'll bet you didn't even know who Laura Ingraham was until this week.

Yeah? How many of her books have you read, and what were the titles? Have you seen her on TV, listened to her on the radio, or do you just parrot what the Guardian and BBC tell you?
