Americans and their fellow westerners seem to developed a habit of supporting the losers in almost every conflict. Examples: In the Middle East Americans once openly cheered on Israel during its formawtion and first few wars. But after the massive IDF triumph in the Six Day War,,the loser Muslims have enjoyed the sympathy and support of the rest of the world. Example-any modern conflict involving Russia in any way. It even comes down to entertainment and culture as well. In modern Star Trek the Klingons (once treated with justification as Villans) now are treated sympathetically all the time. What gives?
The answer to this seems fairly obvious. The dominate ideology of the US establishment is liberalism, and it seems to have a strict hierarchy of oppressors and oppressed. In the example you mentioned, in the post World War II era Jews were the victims. After they won a few wars, the script flipped and they became oppressors. Add to that the weird racial dynamic that American leftism views every issue. Under the current ideological lens, the Jews are "white" and the Palestinians are "brown" therefore the Palestinians are the good guys. That doesn't make sense since American racial views are not transferable, but that's how these things are viewed nowdays.
Since Israel is the only place in the region where its safe to be Jewish, Christian, American, atheist, gay, non-Muslim or critical of religion/government, its easy to support them. Am I supposed to cheer for those chanting "Death to America!"?
You mean by committing a war crime by blowing up Romulan ship and blaming it on the Dominion so they would join the Starfleet coalition...oops wrong thread.
One explanation would be that you can't sell weapons to the winners. And although the losers usually don't have the money, the US govt borrows money from China, pays it to our weapons makers ('defense industry') and gives the weapons to the losers. Who after the weapons makers have sold a lot of weapons and have a full order book, the losers lose anyway, of course.
