    And lots of music in Mali also - UNTIL NOW. Good post, Dusty. I'm going to check into more of Faith J.H. McDonnell's writings now. Maybe Girl Soldier: A Story of Hope for Northern Uganda's Children will be my next book.

    Look at your thread title.. Why do Islamists hate music?

    All over the ME and North Africa they have Arabic pop, rock, rap, classic and folk.

    They have adapted many Western tunes to Arabic..

    Margot is right...there is music all over the place in the middle east, even in Iran....and maybe even more than here in the US, because not everybody can afford TV's, but they can afford old cassette decks and radios.

    Have you ever been to the middle east?...as a civilian?

    *********s have been *********s since the beginning of humanity, and definitly before Islam ever existed.

    Some Muslims are just *********s, but not most of them. I know, I lived with them, and I'm a Christian American.

    If you're getting your information from the anti Islam consipracy industry in the US and Europe, all you see are the *********s.

    I know lot's of Americans who've lived in the middle east for years at a time amongst Muslims, like I have...and the only people I know who throw out the kind of anti Muslim propaganda we see in this thread have never been to the middle east or lived amongst Muslims.

    Why are these Islamists doing this in this wonderful country with so many wonderful musicians? Remember the Buddha statues in Afghanistan that Islamists destroyed? Why do Islamists destroy beautiful works of art?

    Music calms the savage beast. Taliban types probably take that as a sign of weakness. They are savage beasts IMO. I can visualize them beheading musicians and smashing instruments or anything else that promotes calmness and peace.

    But to say that Islamic people hate music, is quite a stretch.

    But I do have to ask myself, if they love music so much, why is all their music so crappy?
