What a joke. These opinion editorials use Mother Jones and Everytown for their research. Mother Jones and Everytown are specifically anti gun organizations funded by anti gun billionaires. Would you respect me citing the NRA for my references?
They say because it cannot be proven that gun free zones were targeted by the shooter, that there is no evidence that there is a relationship between mass shootings and gun free zones.
Well here is the evidence..... most of these shooting happened in gun free zones.
Just because the shooter is dead in most cases, and they cant interview him to find out if he targeted these place because they are gun free, does not disprove anything.
The FACTS are.... they happened in gun free zones, this is no myth.
The spin these anti gunners try just amazes me.

Those rules are up to the states and cities, and related to their particular environments and populations.

Australia imposed a gun buyback law in the 90's. It is many specific types of firearms were banned except in extreme situations.
Read your facts. It is considered the "gun ban". Even Obama states this in a recent address. But twisting the true statistics of the outcome of the extreme out laws.
Watch the news and take in the facts.
Again, refer to www.ncpa.com article: Australia: More Violent Crime Despite Gun Ban
    for your reference

The NCPA is a right wing think tank that got its information from "Freerepublic" which is about as right wing as you can get and still be on the planet. It is cherry picked tripe. You can tell that because the dates for the data they are quoting vary year to year choosing whichever year had the highest variable. Plus how can one expect gun control to affect something like domestic violence?

Added to that this data is dated Crime rates actually have fallen recently according to the news who were quoting a politician. Next time you want to claim Australia is more violent check out Snopes. It is a well debunked myth

I have just done an analysis on the much vaunted NCPA link which proves it,s bias. If you want to address the RESeARCH in those links please perform a similar critique otherwise it is only down to "Coz I don fink so"

It would be if it was something like a designated defender thing. Plus there are states already that allow guns in bars. Do we see an uprising in violence there?

Actually the true reason why you won't answer is because the stats will prove you wrong. I've researched the stats before and after gun ban and you guys are right back where you started plus a spike in between.

What proportion? Did the shooter deliberately choose a gun free zone? This was the first essence of the analysis. There is no evidence that shooters choose gun free zones and considerable evidence that some choose sites where they are likely to be shot. Death by cop I believe it is called. There were and are more shootings outside of gun free zone. Btw are you aware that the whole concept of gun free zones came from the NRA?

No, actually it started with NYPD, they created gun free zones that spanned the 5 Boroughs of the City of New York.

NYC is famous for prosecuting people for an unlicensed gun.
See, The People of the State of New York, Appellant,
    v
    Bernhard Goetz, Respondent.

Let's examine the last 10 active shooter / mass shooting incidents, where the shooter had no specific tie, therefore picked a random location, shall we? Shooter could have picked a non gun free, or gun free location.

    Orlando Florida....... Gun free zone.
San Bernardino California ......... Gun free zone.
Planned parenthood Colorado....... Gun free zone.
Umpqua college Oregon ........Campus declared gun free zone by the college, even though State law allows it.
Grand 16 theater Louisiana...... Gun free zone
Armed forces career center Tennessee...... Gun free zone
Methodist church sSouth Carolina........ Gun free zone
Marysville-Pilchuck high school Washington...... Gun free zone
Fort Hood Texas...... Gun free zone
The Mall in Columbia Maryland....... Gun free zone

I only picked the last 10 because I could go on and on and I don't want to.
I suppose these could be all a coincidence..... But I doubt it. It makes perfect sense that a shooter intent on doing as much damage as possible would choose a place of least resistance.

Pray tell where is the evidence that proves conclusively that those intent on mass killings do not actually select locations where firearms are prohibited? What exactly is this evidence that they either do not care, or are simply too stupid to care about selecting an ideal location that puts the odds in their favor?

How about all the gun deaths and gun murders that happen in non gun free zones. All the zones where guns are perfectly legal and self defense would be at a potential utmost. Do you have a list and tally of those?

I can tell you that up to 80% of all homicides are in urban areas rampant with gang/drug activity. I don't think the ghetto is a gun free zone.

If you can post a number of active shooter incidents in these places, feel free to do so.
We want to compare apples to apples -- right?

You can't prevent people from carrying a gun and drinking any more than you can prevent them from drinking and driving.

All you can do is punish those who make bad decisions. Unfortunately even violent criminals are out on parole in a year or two, in many cases.

No, it's just self defense that is banned.

    - - - Updated - - -

That makes no sense, if someone tries to rob a Range / Gun store, would that be a good idea ?

    Sure.

Here's the list of shootings they used.

    - - - Updated - - -

The list her source references includes home invasions and drug deals gone bad, for one.

There are many other ways to tear it apart as well.

Sometimes I get pist. Is that pisting?

It makes sense when their list of "mass shootings" include home invasions and drug dealer shootings, who are themselves supposed to be "gun free".

This is Everytown researchers list for claiming only 13% of mass shootings happen in "gun free" zones.

    http://everytownresearch.org/documents/2015/10/mass-shootings-analysis-appendix.pdf

"Everytown" research includes such gems as this in it's highly researched (/knee slap) report:

Apparently this guy created armor piercing grenades. I never even got to use one of those in the military.

They also didn't discover in their "research" that a bad conduct discharge from the US military precludes one from gun ownership, not to mention all the incidents of domestic violence.

To ban guns in this country you would have to kill off about 10 percent of the population, arrest another 10 percent, and threaten another 30 percent. So if you want to be the next Stalin go for it.

I'm new here. But several things leap out as issues in this discussion. For one thing, gun control is not traffic control, or alcohol control, or pizza control, or what have you. It is not "like" any of them, and dragging them in and saying "Look we control or regulate this, so why not guns?" is neither germane nor logical. Secondly, posting an argument as being that of "any decent American" is silly. I think there are plenty of decent people on each side (although I'm convinced there are more indecent folks on the other side...); so staking out decency as being whatever agrees with your position labels your argument as weak and relying on the actually unknown character of all Americans, some of whom are shooting at one another right now. And finally, we have a Bill of Rights in this country that very simply says the government is not empowered to infringe on the people's right to keep and bear arms.Period. The debate over gun control comes from those who feel the cost of freedom is not worth the cost of the false security they seek; those of us who value the freedoms we have already possess the 2nd Amendment, militia-ed preamble and all.
