I will assume that our masters are whoever directs the country, and most of the population.

And since the country is almost always at war, and usually with several adversaries, the ones controlling us are whoever compels the country to go to war.

And equally if a war has gotten slow and isn't making enough money, to leave the old tired war behind and start a new more exciting one.

The old war gets thought of as 'a mistake' or no longer relevant or something

and the new one is 'this time we really got it right!'

Leaving a bunch of wars out, there was Vietnam, a mistake we just had to keep on making for over 11 years,
Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. But now at last Ukraine, and this time we got it right.
    For now.

    Oh and of course China.

    Why are they our enemy?
    Because they have weapons.
    Why do they have weapons?
    Because we have weapons.

And they are making more weapons.
Because on the front page of our newspapers
are stories of hypothetical wars with China.
So for the sake of avoiding humiliation,
they have huge parades of soldiers and tanks.

They have long been our friends, and we their best customers.

Isn't there something in their religion and ours against stirring up trouble between friends?
