Beyond the usual talking points, when given the opportunity, pro-"lifers" do not punish abortion as murder by law. When you observe the punishment that some countries inflict upon those who have criminal abortions, it is quite minimal. So minimized the punishment, it is probably on par with committing some form of manslaughter but not first-degree murder which pro-"lifers" insist.

Minus the Holy See, below are the only countries in the world that have outright banned abortion for any reason. You'll see the sentences are as severe as a slap on the wrist for intentionally taking, "innocent human life."

    Malta - 18 months to 3 years
    Dominican Republic - 2 to 3 years
    El Salvador - 2 to 8 years
    Nicaragua - 1 to 8 years
    Chile - 541 days to 3 years

Below, are notable countries which have restricted access to abortion but make exceptions in a few rare cases (i.e. rape, health.) I've decided to include them for the sake of curiosity.

    Philippines - 6 years
Ireland - 14 years (Use to be life imprisonment)
    Brazil - 1 to 3 years
Poland - "...women in Poland are not subject to a penalty for illegal termination of pregnancy."

That is because it really isn't about the innocent lives, the children or murder. It is about control at the higher levels of advocacy and it is about "moral superiority" at the level of mindless minions who recite the mantra.

95% of them who scream "abortion is murder"....suddenly BACK OFF their own rhetoric when you ask them a simple question-

"If abortion is murder, would you prosecute a woman who takes RU-486 and self-terminates her pregnancy? With the penalty of life-in-prison or even the death penalty if convicted?"

Almost always they say "Well, it's not '1st degree murder'...it's 'homicide'...so I'd give her 10-15 years (or less)." Suddenly it's NOT "murder" but some lesser form of "manslaughter". Despite the fact it is deliberate, premeditated, etc.....all the qualifiers for 1st degree murder.

Why?.....simple, first as promet noted...it's not about abortion, but controlling women. Second, EVEN THEY don't see terminating a pregnancy early on as "murder"...

they're LYING in their own rhetoric.

I would really like to see pro-lifers own up to this one and answer honestly. Of course most of them don't really believe abortion is murder which is why they regularly dodge this question. How should a woman who has chosen abortion or self terminated be punished under the law? If it's truly akin to first degree murder then you'd think they would want to see these women locked up forever. And how about women who chose abortion while it was still legal? Should they also face time for their crimes of murder or not? Let's see who bothers to step up to the plate here.

Most "pro-lifers" won't. Their rhetoric is fundamentally a LIE. True, you'll find a few radical authoritarians every now and then (no names needed here)....but most who scream "Abortion is murder"....don't ACTUALLY want abortion treated as "murder" legally.

Some are actually smart enough to see how living up to their own words...would be politically disasterous for them trying to sell their agenda or supporting Republicans who are "pro-life". But even that shows their dishonesty.

The only time that abortion is actually murder is when it's written on the picket signs of anti-abortionists.

But an interesting thought just occurred to me. Since murder has no statute of limitation, if abortion were deemed illegal, would that mean millions of women could be retroactively charged with murder and sent to prison? All that would take is the confiscation of medical records to find out who indeed had one.

    Would pro-lifers support this?

I mentioned THAT once....in context of our very own self-admitted "abortion user" churchmouse. Should abortion become illegal and deemed "murder"....should CM be prosecuted for murder???

Her defenders response? "It wasn't illegal when she had her abortion." Again, we see how it's "not really murder" to them when to make that statement becomes politically or personally embarassing.

Another reason they are scared away from actually sticking to what they SAY about "abortion being murder"......the "statute of limitations" question. There is NONE for murder....so why couldn't women, even NOW "pro-life" women, who had an abortion in the past be prosecuted for murder?

They go to legalities like "It wasn't illegal at the time"....they show that it's NOT about "morality" as they easily dismiss their "morality" to try to protect women on their side who have had an abortion but now "have repented".

Well, sorry....a "murderer" doesn't get to "repent" and not still get prosecuted.

    HA!

Shows how much they understand the legal aspects of murder.

Or their CLAIMED "moral aspects" to abortion. If they REALLY believe "abortion is murder"....then they'd demand it be TREATED as "murder" in the criminal justice system.

Which means if a woman has an abortion that is "premeditated, deliberate, etc."....she gets prosecuted for first-degree murder. Same sentencing too. AND even if a woman had an abortion in the past before they got it declared murder.....she would have to be prosecuted as well.

    But they don't....do they?

Sounds like Ireland had it right at one point. Personally, I'd charge it as capital murder no different from any other infant killing and seek life imprisonment or the death penalty for offenders.

It would be nice to have that level of consistency in our laws.

    Wouldn't it?

Assuming you're for the death penalty, so you'd want to execute those who have abortions? So you'd be okay with executing over 20,000,000 Americans?

So why haven't they treated abortion as such? Is it because those mean ol' liberals are oppressing you?

Supporting the death penalty as a fitting punishment for a crime comitted is not the same thing as actually "wanting" to see anyone executed.

    But to use your vernacular...

How haven't you and the other pro-aborts been okay with the denial of and the killings of over 40 Million children and counting?

At least a person executed in a death penalty case gets a fair trial, endless appeals and a chance for a stay against their execution.

You don't afford anything close to that - for a child about to be aborted.

So, which of us is the more barbaric?

Easy there, tiger, I only asked you a simple question. Would you want the 20,000,000 women who had abortions executed if proven guilty in a court of law? Yes or no? You don't have to rationalize it, just answer it, please.

    The death penalty, naturally.

    I answered this.

The support for the death "penalty" as a fitting punishment does not come from a "want" to kill anyone.

Abortions are capital punishments (death penalties) against children who were not even capable of committing any crimes.

Just say, "yes." You don't have to get so dramatic. I wasn't even going to criticize your decision until you made such a huge deal out of nothing.

Wow, that would be a lot of women you'd have to imprison, kill and bury. Why, you could almost say it is kind of like a holocaust.

No, my friend, that wouldn't parallel it at all. Nothing can compare to the...FETOCAUST!

Not backing off at all. If abortion was illegal and so were the pills...then absolutely prosecute those who break the law. 100% yes.

That is a simple question....very simple.

But you totally are forgetting one element here. Most women pay to have it done. And if it were illegal...they would think twice if the penalties were this stiff..before doing the abortion themselves. The abortionist you forget about. He/she is the one actually doing the killing. Any woman can pay, walk into an abortion mill, lay on the table...position themselves for the abortion...but unless there is a doctor willing to do it...nothing would happen. You make abortion illegal and you place stiff sentences on the doctors....and well...there ya go. We have never had stiff sentences when abortion was illegal.

This is about controlling doctors...and what they do as well.

But then Gorn...your also about enslaving the woman if you don't condone abortion the whole nine months? What is it for you?

So given that there is no statute of limits for murder would you agree that any person over the last forty years who has had an elective abortion should stand trial for murder and face the proper penalty for that crime.

You are happy for all those millions of women to be prosecuted?

no statute of limitations on murder, and I cannot find anywhere that would allow post de facto law arguments dealing with murder.

Unfortunately (maybe fortunately) laws can not be made to be retroactively enforced like that.

Especially given that our own government has been complicit in the murders.
