Why is New Zealand such a powerhouse of morality?

Some would say it is because we have no need to compromise principle for material gain.

Some would say it is because our PM (of the time) fought to keep the US and the French from polluting the South Pacific. "I can smell the uranium on your breath".

Others would say it is because we did not murder the previous inhabitants.

Yet others that we have provided haven for the oppressed in proportions exceeding those of other countries.

Some would laud our democratic institutions.

Others our defence of our freedoms against the tyranny of Australia.

Yet others that we did not participate in Bush II's slaughter of Iraqis.

Most NZders would say it is because it is easy to be morally superior to the supposed examplars that diminish morality in most things they do.

Democracy is always laudable. But I'm skeptical that your democratic institutions are any more genuinely democratic than us United Statesians'. What measures do you have in place to preserve the democratic nature of said institutions? 'Cause ours kinda went to crap. Do you have lobbyists?

Well ... in my experience, they'd be wrong. It usually looks easy to be morally superior to someone when you see what you believe to be an obvious mistake that you could have avoided. But it hardly ever works out that way in practice. There seems to be some stupid rule to the stupid universe -- yes, universe, I'm calling you stupid, 'cause this rule is retarded -- that says that you can't avoid a mistake without first walking right into it.
