Why is SARS 2002 considered an EPIDEMIC and not a PANDEMIC like COVID-19?

So that means to that you one person infected in Egypt and one infected in Israel is a pandemic? Is the common flu a pandemic to you? What are your definition? Do you actually personally believe that SARS was a pandemic?

An 'outbreak' is not one person. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an outbreak "is the occurrence of more cases of a disease than would normally be expected in a specific place or group of people over a given period of time."

At last, we agree. President Clorox daily answers the question of what happens if you elect an idiot and then have a crisis.

Are you under the impression that I am questioning why coronavirus is a pandemic?

Downplaying the threat in February and March. Failing to get manufacturers to produce a lot of respirators and other PPE for everyone, but especially for workers who deal with the public.

He has failed to pursue a strategy of suppressing the virus. He has failed to assemble a national testing and tracing program. He failed to tell business they had to prepare for operations in an environment of physical distancing. He failed to protect the food supply by forcing processors to adapt their plants. That's just for starters.

What specific effects did the verbal downplaying have?

How are you saying that he could have GOT manufacturers to do that?

    Why did you post this?

Isn't that what the states are doing with lockdowns?

Who is calling for this? Aren't the states doing this?

You mean the businesses which are still operating?

Has the food supply be deemed as unsafe or something?

Already have. SARS appears to fit the definition of pandemic. And so far, nobody has been able to say how it doesn't fit. You attempted to,
first by saying that "it never reach west", and then by saying that it infected "very few ppl compare to cov19." However, you failed.

There is no definitive definition of pandemic (or epidemic for that matter) but the clear distinction here is that SARS only had community spread in a limited number of countries in one region of the world. Outside the core region impacted, outbreaks were directly attributed to people travelling and were largely controlled. The difference with COVID-19 is that the community spread is established in countries across lots of regions around the world.

The outbreaks outside the core region impacted was still community spread wasn't it? I don't see how being "directly attributed to people traveling" means that it's not community spread. And the community spread that you are talking about is also linked to people traveling - the virus travels with people.

Are you saying that you don't think that coronavirus is a pandemic?

No, I'm saying it's not a pandemic because the WHO says it is.

You're the one asking the question, so I don't know what you do / don't know. The dictionary definitions are pretty clear.

A few thousand in a few countries versus millions in most countries - - intuitively is different.

I don't know whether you're playing dumb or literally don't know but either way I'm not wasting my time explaining it. If you're being honest, just look it up.

The subject of the thread is SARS, not coronavirus.

The spread of the virus is linked to travel. It really is just that simple.
