    Last nite on Q and A it was revealed that Captain Charisma, Joe Hockey is paid $270 per nite
    when he leaves his electorate and travels to Canberra. He stated that he lives in a house owned
    by his wife and pays her rent. Strange. However, be that as it may, I find it bloody offensive that
    all politicians get an allowance of $270 per nite to go to work, and have the perfect opportunity
    to simply buy another house, and live in their house whilst at work in Canberra, be given an allowance of $270 per nite, get a free government car to and from work, and somehow,
    sit there on television as if to say..."well thats all right...Im entitled to it...Im a politician"
    Of course the rent he "pays" to his wife would obviously find its way back into the Captains pocket, wouldnt it.
    Of course, thats on top of free travel from his electorate to Canberra to go to work.
    These parasites are bleeding us dry with all their allowances...
    Christ I hate politicians...

    Perhaps its got something to do with them living in the their electorates, but having to also attend work in federal parliament at Canberra. I don't think its uncommon, but to suggest all politicians should buy a house in Canberra is a bit loopey.

    Most successful people these days have more then one property, its part of the whole build your own super portfolio push over the last 20 years to avoid bankrupting the country by expecting government handouts when people get too old to work.

    I take it you dont mind giving him all those entitlements, then, including the $270 per nite to live in his own house...

    I dont know enough about his property portfolio to answer, but its pretty normal to provide accomodation expenses. It's probably an investment property and therefore losing income by being used for lodgement so yea why not. Havent you ever gotten an allowance when travelling?

    There are 150,000 (Australia wide) on the waiting list for government housing...some for up to 20 years...
    and Hockey gets $270 per nite to live in his own house whilst in Canberra....puts it in perspective,
    doesnt it.........

    An ethical politician wouldn't have set this up. We know when we travel for work we claim what we spent and produce receipts and get reimbursements, we don't make money on the deal. Hockey may be acting within the bounds of policy but he has opened himself up to a lot of criticism. Not smart politics. Maybe we should just build a big dorm for them all in Canberra.

    If it was the private sector you'd use your receipts so the appropriate amount only was used, but the APS just throws cash because they are too lazy to actually 'look' at the paperwork. I guess 'if' it was an investment property of his/hers then it would be appropriate to get the market rental value.... which would likely be a lot less. Otherwise it's probably to cover the cost of short term accommodation and the impact of that, which is usually higher then long term accomodation.

    How many other politicians do the same thing I wonder..... do no others own property which they use in this way, and who was the journo that manufactured the question and injected into the QaA list and why didn't they look wider. You'd think a larger scale rort would have more news value then one politicians, unless the journo is using their taxpayer funded job of impartial journalist to push their political bias! The ABC needs to start answering some questions about its targetted stories. You couldn't get them to run anything juicey about anyone in the ALP goverments, but they seem to dig for any morsel when its the LNP.

    I don't know about Australia, but here in the States is politicians lie and cheat to get elected and then put their political parties agenda way ahead of Americas.

    Politicians lie all over the world, we all know that, but what has always pissed me off is the way they get paid all their allowances, forever increasing, never decreasing, as if they were Gods....and the peasants just keep on struggling on......
    There is only one thing worse than a lying politician, and that is one that smiles arrogantly as he sits there being
    interviewed...Hockey does it all the time....
    I read once years ago that the NSW State politicians, if their superannuation funds didnt return a particular
    percentage for the year, they topped it up out of Treasury funds...that sucks....it really sucks......
    And the peasants can do nothing....

    Same thing here. Congressmen and senators make around 180,000 a year plus expenses and a slosh fund/party fund. Then there is the medical they get and if they serve X number of years, they get a retirement equal to their pay as a congressman/senator and other benefits.

    And like you, peasants or voters or average Joes, can do nothing. Heck, they, congress passed a law now where they get automatic raises unless they vote the raise down. In other words, do nothing, kept quiet, receive a raise.

    Wake up? I'm not defending him, I'm attacking the ABC for focusing on one person/party. If you didn't have your head up your arsenal you'd see I offered an actual commentary on how the current system is not ideal.

    Oh, that is not the post you quoted in your accusation of me defending him, nice digging to cover your arse though.... still wrong, I'd call it trying to understand the nature of the problem. If you werent trying so hard to push forum personalities along political lines I might agree with you, but nah.

    That $270 per nite must account in part for his SMUG demeanor.

    A person who rorts $270 per nite... in charge of the budget. How blinkered and arrogant not to budget himself. I hate this man. Smug. Out of touch. A slug on the landscape.

    Does it really surprise anyone with an IQ about 70, that the majority of "Aussies" don't seem to care that Joe has an personal estimated fortune of $50 million, and is getting the stupid Australian tax payers to pay $1890 per week off his investment property in Canberra? :roflol:

    It kind of puts the whole picture in perspective about how dumb and stupid Australians really are, when people like Joe can accrued a $50 million dollar private fortune, and still get the stupid Australians to feel sorry for him using THEIR money to pay off HIS house :roflol: :roflol:

    Nice one Joe - congratulations mate. You are really a tune to how dumbarse & gullible Australians have become. :beer:

    Hockey has the hide to call us clowns because we doubt the state of the economy...of course hes ok,
    and so is every politican with all their allowances...
    I read somewhere recently the dentists are complaining that statistics on appointments are going down..
    No-one has the money any more to look after their teeth...
    A friend of mine knows an optometrist...the optometrist says that 20 years ago he was seeing one client a month
    that obviously had diabetes...now its three a week...what thats got to do with the economy Im buggered if I know
    but the stats are there...this nation is on the decline....and Hockey calls us clowns.......move over Greece...
    ...here comes Ostraya...oh...by the way...a Manly footballer just signed an eight year..ten million dollar contract
    just to throw a piece of leather around.......but what would I know...I dont have five degrees...

    It was and is a purely hockey made up story, so hockey could get his picture in the media, nobody is listening to hockey or the LNP anymore!

    Seriously, just how dumb and backward do Australians have to be to understand that all the politicians MAKE THINGS UP for their benefit.

    They are getting wealthy off your money for doing absolutely NOTHING, and they have you all fooled into believing they are financially doing it as tough & as hard as you are. :roflol:

    There is a group of politicians called the opposition that do nothing, and can do noting except ask question, and the Australian people PAY THEM MONEY to do nothing and to ask questions. :roflol: Could it be possible to get an easier job?

    There is a word for people like Australians - DICK-HEADS. :roflol:
