Why the official 8.3 percent unemployment rate is actually a phony number!

Here is a very interesting study on the real unemployment rate in the United States.

The "feel-good" and "let's celebrate" unemployment numbers reported today by the Obama administrarion are bogus and unreliable because they do not include (1) the millions of discouraged workers who have dropped out of the workforce, and (2) the millions and millions of part-time workers who wish they had full-time work but work in positions where they do not.

For example, if you factor in the number of Americans who have became discouraged and have given up looking for work, the U-3 unemployment rate would be much closer to 11.0 percent.

If you include the discouraged workers who have dropped out of the workforce plus the part-time workers who wish they had full-time work, that more representative unemployment rate is still a sky-high 15.1 percent.

'One of the most accurate election forecasting models doesn’t even look at the unemployment rate. It looks at per person GDP growth, which correlates with income growth. If you plug a 2 percent GDP forecast for 2012 into the model of Yale’s Ray Fair, the algorithm predicts a close election, but still an Obama defeat with the incumbent president getting just 47.8 percent of the two-party vote."

It's always been phony. Pointing out that the numbers are down but actually higher is true for 100% of the time. People are pointing it out to attack Obama when it could be used to attack any president :p.

I agree with both of you guys. The "low" rate right now may come back to haunt Obama as people re-enter the job market. He's going to have to get some thugs over to the people who report the numbers and get some skulls cracked to save his ass- assuming he hasn't done so already.

    Simples, really.
It doesn't play into the right-wing chicken little meme.
The last thing right-wingers want is for America to get better under Obama's leadership.

If they can't play the economy card, you can be sure that they will have to double down on playing the race card.
They simply have to find some way of scaring the bejeezus out of everyone if they want to get some votes.

Since Obama has neutered them on the national security front, they can't trot out the 3am phone call bull(*)(*)(*)(*) anymore.
The only lines of attack are the economy, national security and social issues.
If the economy is improving, and the terrorists are being mopped up, the only thing left for them is to stoke the flames of a culture war.
So expect the race card to be thrown out fast and furiously.

Lol...I thought that you people subscribed to the trickle down theory?

Don't worry, after we get done taking care of people who actually need help, I'm sure some of that prosperity will trickle down to those right-wingers who have spent the past 4 years wishing and hoping for America to fail and doing everything in their power to make it so.

The old story of the Little Red Hen perfectly sums up the situation in America today. Read it and educate yourself, red.
Ironically, Obama being blue, his tendency will be to share anyway. But you'll have to wait your turn.

But it's a LIE, there is no improvement in the economy. The number is a big fat statistical lie.

So what if we created 100,000 jobs in a month when 1,000,000 people quit looking for work in the same month??

When will you get that help to the people? You have trying to do that since the 1960's and have spent over $9 trillion on your ideas

These numbers show that liberalsim always fails

All folks have to do is look around them to see the truth.

Big employment gains with that limp GDP, really?

LOL...There are lies, (*)(*)(*)(*)ed lies, and then there are statistics.

Nevertheless, silly cons think that statistics are only valid if they feed into their chicken little right-wing meme of denigrating Obama with every breath they take.

It must suck to be a con these days, especially with the sordid gaggle of potus candidates they have managed to come up with and with the economy making slow but noticeable progress.

    "Slow but noticable progress."????

WTF? By every historical recessionary standard, the Obama recovery is a miserable failure. We should have an economy bursting at the seams by now according to historical precedent. Why can't Obama match previous recovery standards if he's so great?

This recession is no worse than the one we had in the 1970's, and we should be booming right now!

I thought that you people believed in helping yourselves?

Nevertheless, it's taking longer than expected because when Obama encouraged everyone in 2009 to pick up a broom and try to help get the country back on track, the right-wingers refused to do anything but urinate on their country and pray for it and Obama to fail.
You people still haven't learned your lesson, or accepted responsibility for your part in the problems.

Obama's failure is the country's success. You just don't see that do you?

Back in the 70s, we didn't have the sick gaggle of idiot right-wingers that we have today, trying to destroy the country because the thought of a black man as president is too much for their fevered brains to accept.

What if you're not a racist and you just don't agree with Social Democratic "Progressive" economics and think they are bunk and are fit only for buying votes from the poor, dumb and ignorant?

All you see is "racism". I see poor economic policy and moral hazard.

    Moral hazard indeed.
All anyone has seen and heard from the rabid right in the past 4 years has been corrupted by the thinly veiled or crudely spewed racist rhetoric they all love to use. They have absolutely nothing of moral or intellectual value to offer the country.

Had you people behaved like civilized Americans after losing the 2008 elections, rather than terrorist sympathizers intent on keeping America suffering for partisan gain, we would have been able to make even better progress.

So you basically despise an entire half of the nation and an entire half of the nation has no moral and intellectual value to offer the country?

There is no proof at all that this narrative is even remotely true.

Blocking keynesian spending is not making America fail. Keynes has been officially debunked the world over.

Also, most of Obama's agenda that was blocked from 2008-2010 was Blue Dog Dems.. not Republicans. So its obvious that "traitors" within your own party are also responsible.
