Why would China use a spy balloon when it has satellites?

I have several questions regarding this balloon. First, why hasn't it been shot down? How is it able to hover in one place for days at a time? According to the State Department this balloon was first seen moving east over the Aleutian Islands. If the pentagons concerns about shooting it down would endanger people the Aleutian Islands are practically inhabited. And so is Montana. It's being reported Biden wanted it shot down but was overrode by the Pentagon. This is really puzzling.

News of a suspected Chinese spy balloon floating over the US has left many wondering why Beijing would want to use a relatively unsophisticated tool for its surveillance of the US mainland.

The capabilities of this particular balloon are unclear, but experts say it serves more as a "signal" than a security threat.

It was spotted floating over the state of Montana, days before US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to China.

The top US diplomat is expected to meet China's President Xi Jinping, making him the first in his role to do so.

"Beijing is probably trying to signal to Washington: 'While we want to improve ties, we are also ever ready for sustained competition, using any means necessary', without severely inflaming tensions.

"And what better tool for this than a seemingly innocuous balloon," independent air-power analyst He Yuan Ming told the BBC.

They give us balloons, let's give them starlink and uncensored internet.

How do they know its Chinese, and yes, why use easily detectable balloons when they can use satellites? ?

Maybe they are concerned about what is inside the balloon.

it is high enough that any gas inside it would get into the jet stream. It's not just about stuff falling directly beneath the balloon.

Wouldnt have all this news coverage if it was a satellite unseen by Americans.

True but the Pentagon could have said it was a UAP.

A massive spy balloon believed to be from China was seen above Montana and is being tracked as it flies across the continental United States, with President Joe Biden for now deciding against "military options" because of the risk to civilians, U.S. officials said on Thursday.

Still, officials insisted, they continue to closely monitor the vessel as they have since it entered the country -- while voicing their concern to Beijing.

"The United States government has detected and is tracking a high-altitude surveillance balloon that is flying over the continental United States right now," Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement on Thursday. "NORAD [North American Aerospace Defense Command] continues to track and monitor it closely."

Wow, a spy balloon the size of 3 buses. Seems like they don't really care if they are noticed. Chinese have a history of using balloons for nefarious reasons.

Biden is dragging his feet over it. Could it be that he is concerned about Biden family debt to China? Could be. Biden is stonewalling questions about it.

And the people would insist that it be identified.

AM 'conservative' talk radio's up and running with brouhaha about the balloon. One 'expert' likened it to an act of war. Nonsense, of course.

Folks interested in such things as surveillance hardware and history might start with the Lockheed U-2 plane of the late '50's. Balloons were also used by both sides in the American Civil War.

A tempest in a teapot, but good copy to fill space on an otherwise uneventful day.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well.

I think there are pictures taken by civilians that are too clear for them to try and pass it off as a UAP. You can clearly see it's a balloon with what looks like solar panels attached to it.

Now, i wouldn't be surprised if they try to pass off all the UAP's as Chinese balloons after this.

Not UAPs that hover in one place for days.

Some of the pilots did report UAP's that sat stationary for a long period of time.

Our government’s never played stupid before? They certainly didn’t have to claim it was Chinese. False flag leading to something maybe?

    A UAP can’t do that?

    Oh no,

I'm certain that this is a Chinese balloon. The government didn't want the public speculating over it, because their speculation would probably be more ominous than just a Chinese balloon.

I was just saying that this is going to make it easier for them to pretend that UAP's are all something that can be easily explained now.

The balloon story is enlivening an otherwise lackluster day in AM talk radio studios and media newsrooms in the United States of America.

In perspective and with regard to significant impact, it's third page news, if that.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well.
