Why would I worship and love a "God" who ordered infanticide?

Even making the "just war" argument....Truman was a piker compared to "God"...

Did Truman order the deaths of every single Japanese baby and child?

"Eventually".....1800 years(!)......sounds like the word "soon" as in Jesus will return "soon", as the Bible states! The bible thinks that "soon" describes 2000 years and counting!

If YOU had Jesus' apparent insight and loving abilities and were alive when he was, would YOU taken a mere 15 seconds out of your entire lifetime to say this to your disciples: "write this down, slavery is wrong, I want it ended w/in the next 5 years!" Would you? I KNOW what Gorn and Richard Dawkins would have done, but what about YOU?
    Have a great day.

You keep saying that....but can't explain it.

How long was a "day" in Genesis? 24 hours or 100s, 1000s, millions of years?

I would think more were killed in Japan. If you want to compare numbers you atheists have everyone beat last century.

The ones who lived in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, effectively yes.

Jesus hated people changing money in a temple....but couldn't take a few seconds to say "Slavery is evil. It should be ended."

God is also just, in addition to loving. He ordered the deaths of all of us when sin came into the world through Eve. Personally, I wouldn't want to live forever in a fallen world.

Did Truman order the deaths of ALL Japanese...men, women, children, and babies?

    Yes or No?

Did God order the deaths of ALL Amalekites, men, women, children, and babies?

    Yes or No?

Even with two atomic bombs....nobody comes close to the genocide and infanticide your "loving and merciful" God endorsed.

I'm sure if it were going on there He would have. Like homosexuality, it wasn't an issue with His Jewish audiences.

I love Ad hominem attacks because they spur me on further, since I sense weakness in my debating opponent, by the way. :)
So how old WAS Noah, and how old is the earth, Paul7? If you reply with anything other than simple numbers, I think you lose. Here's my opinion: the bible is insane because Noah was NOT about 1/6 of the age of the current earth (his 950 years vs. the 6000 years of the earth)....so Christians are a bit delusional to believe anything the bible says, necessarily.
The earth is over 4 billion years old, and Noah was not 950 years old.

Slavery existed openly and widely in Jesus' time. Yet he said NOTHING condemning it...not even one measly verse.

    In those two cities, yes.

Yes, they were long time enemies of Israel. It is hypocritical to say we have a right to wage war on our enemies but ancient Israel didn't, and it is even more critical to be against what Israel did but approve of the murder of 50,000,000 unborn children in the US alone.

Your numbers are way off, Communist vermin killed 100,000,000 last century.

He addressed the slavery of man to sin, a much greater problem. Heck, abortion is a much greater evil than slavery, at least most slaves weren't killed. In both situations, some people are deemed sub-human and could be done to whatever others want out of convenience.

I'm so glad that Modern Secular Humanists like Dawkins and Harris believe that DEMOCRACY is the best form of governance, and not totalitarian rule, unlike Jesus (never spoke up for democracy.) I dislike communism as much as you do, Paul7 - that's something that we agree on.

You must be having a bad comprehension day, I didn't say that, I said it wasn't an issue among His Jewish audiences. It was an issue to Paul's gentile audiences, which is why he addressed it and not Jesus. Certainly the gay issue is nothing new, IMHO it is simply a return to paganism. I'm sure you do, and am not saying otherwise. IMHO Dawkins and Harris are parasites on their Judeo/Christian tradition that produced human rights and democracy. As far back as Augustine the distinction between the City of God and the City of Man was discussed, there is no such separation in Islam. See also Jesus' 'Give to God what is God's and to Caesar what is Caesar's.'

It is easy to see how the Gulag happened, Stalin thought there are no eternal moral standards or rewards and punishments, that man was the highest power, and that man was a cosmic accident with no more intrinsic worth than a dog. Consequently, when once he was awakened at night be a dog barking, he had the owner shot.

Well of course it wasn't an issue to them because their god, the infallible source of morality and knowledge, said to KILL gays, so there was no need to mull-over or re-hash something that the all-knowing creator of the entire universe has already decreed! Simple, really.

Whoa there, slick! You seem to be under the misapprehension that Jesus actually CARED about humanity. Jesus obviously didn't care about humanity.

I wouldn't have the chutzpah to put myself in that role even theoretically, he is God, I am not. The Roman government was even much more depraved than our own times, yet He never told them to do anything. His primary mission was to reconcile man to God through His atoning death on the cross. Any other question pales in significance next to that. Sadly, many refuse that offer of salvation.

    - - - Updated - - -

He cared enough to die on a cross.

Why are you leapfrogging back thousands of years in history to complain about what ancient Israel did while ignoring a much greater evil going on TODAY?

Or maybe, just maybe, we're going to have to kill Jesus because he was....GAY. The dude was neat, chose to roam the countryside with MEN as his 12 disciples, and we never were told what he did during what would be a person's most sexually active years (late teens and 20's), etc. If, repeat if, Jesus was gay, just say, would you say the bible is wrong to have said to kill gays? What say you?

I want to talk about the Apparent Design argument its a major one used by Creationists. Its not hard to see the universe and life and believe there was a designer however science has a simple approach to this. When this universe formed it was under complex natural laws that happened to fall into place ,one out of untold trillions and trillions of Universes and we got lucky that's all. Under these life evolved and such until we get to the universe we see, with life here evolving as some species failed and others survived making humanity for now the dominant species. This not through our physical merits we are not really outstanding there but our reason our capacity to created, invent and change our environment and someday leave this world for the stars unless we fail first.

Its that which is special our sense of survival demanding us leaving our world and join likely if fortunate a small club of advanced, space faring species likely a very small club since intelligence seems rare in nature the shark is very successful but not a creature of reason.

It took us billions of years as a universe to get us here now, have some pride in that, not in the big spooky being in the sky which to me is a fiction.
