I was reading an article that says that Social Conservatives are not going away. In fact, they are doubling down on their issues. What do you think. Social Conservatives. Good? Bad? . . .
Not a big fan of them. They're the main reason that the Republican Party is starting to fade. If they go the Libertarian route, myself and many other young voters would happily vote Republican.
While I may disagree with them on their social ideas I will say that is why they are Conservatives and they have been part of the GOP since the beginning, so the answer is No they will not kill the GOP. That said if they gain too much power within the Party and push for their goals too hard America will reject the GOP as the Party to lead this Nation. So long as the GOP keeps the social conservatives within limits they will be fine, they are not the problem these days, the obstructionists that are keeping the business of the government to get done are the problem, and same can be said of the Dems and it is up to rational American voters to hold them ALL accountable for their actions at election time.
They need to repackage their ideas to not sound so harsh. I would present the antiabortion message as being strongly connected to national security and the need to strengthen the economy and finance programs for aging Americans rather than just the simple moral message.
They need to tailor their message, I agree. Instead of wailing about divorce rates they should remind people that the faster way to prosperity is through a strong marriage and family unit you can depend on in hard times. That message will carry more weight then complaining everyone's morals broke down.
This is me and many of my friends (27-33 range). The main question we all have towards conservative social issues is "who cares". My biggest problem with gays is that they are insanely in your face and I think giving them what they want may end that. Hate to say it but abortions are a good thing, my opinion here is born from the same analytical attitude that makes me an economic conservative. It's a numbers game. Many of us just abstain, it's insanely frustrating.
They show up to fight leftism a lot better then the libertarians do. They would turn our for Paul, they would I'd he win the primary. Are you turning out for Romney?
When you want to be a part of a team you have to play even when you don't like the lineup. Politics is a team sport. Enjoy Obama, you might as well have voted for him. No practical difference.
I don't subscribe to the spoiler mentality. This government wasn't designed to be a two-party dictatorship.
I disagree with social conservatives on most things, although I often find myself agreeing with them on immigration, Islam, and certain aspects of culture. I also agree with them on gun rights.
That is as believable as any of the other flights of fantasy posted by Libertarians on their perfect form of government.
"What is the Libertarian solution for getting the U.S. back on its economic feet?" Taxcutter says: Getting government out of the economy as quickly as possible. Stop thinking government has any right to pick winners and losers beyond that needed for national defense. Reduce regulation to reasonable levels (not the zero regulation strawman of progressive fevers). Institute tort reform so that reasonable cases can get reasonable hearing but get the "lottery" and "scattergun suits" out of the system. Quit thinking that Keynes had any clue. With regulation abatement, end government subsidies of any business. Go to a 100% consumption based taxation system with no exemptions and end all income taxation. Reduce federal government spending to less than 10% of GDP.
Giving people what they want doesn't make them stop wanting. It just makes them want more and more. If you have kids, you understand the idea. - - - Updated - - - The spoiler mentality is the truth. Any third party will cause the party that it resembles the most to lose, and the party that it likes least to win. That's why Ross Perot gave us Bill Clinton, and the Green Party gave us GW Bush.
Keep sitting on the sidelines playing your fiddle as it all burns down? (Talk about a mixed metaphor! )
