For this to make the news, you know it is real news. We are used to the CA type of Wild Turkey but out in the fields, the hills and around areas where they easily can find water. My city Fremont, CA has residents who fight the Turkeys. On October 31, I saw a wild turkey just outside the front door. I took photos. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/20...er-siege-after-gang-of-wild-turkeys-moves-in/
We have them here in Jersey too, we also had a family walk past our house on two occasions this Summer. I had to make sure I kept the dogs leashed in fact. I am wondering if there is a restocking program in place as this seems to be rampant
I nearly ran one over the other day. I think that was in Concord (east bay). Just as I passed they all entered the street.
When I lived in Shasta County there were wild turkeys. They are freaking fast, really fast. If you are unarmed those turkeys get really violent and will attack you. Another reason why someone should be allowed to pack a gun in California. But the liberals in California expect you to dial 911 while the turkey is attacking your family.
I have many times been all over Shasta County. I never saw a wild turkey. But our CA turkeys are imports. I am not sure where from but they are not native to North America. The first flock of wild turkeys I saw here in CA was close to Livermore, CA at a park site called Del Valle. It has a small man made lake and stores drinking water. I camped for the week end there and the turkeys made so much noise, it was hard to sleep. https://www.campsitephotos.com/campground/ca/lake-del-valle/
Yeah, reading the article on our local Turkeys, I discovered that over that way in Contra Costa County they have huge numbers. Most of ours seems content to live up in the hills. But if they need food, homeowners will find out fast what they are like. They were imported to CA. I expect from Europe. I have not checked this out in detail but learned what type they are and was told they do not come from North America. The bird I photographed was wary but not scared.
According to the California dept. of fish and game, it's turkey hunting season right now. You are allowed to bag one a day and have two in your possession. You can hunt them with shotguns, air rifles, and bow&arrow. I have a friend who has a lot of trouble with turkeys, but his wife won't let us hunt them.
