Actually, we do have some historical correlative evidence: Our governments welcomed eastern Europeans fleeing the USSR. The people smugglers were hailed as heroes back then.

Some counter-evidence is we did the same with the Vietnamese. However, i guess we were at war there, and to continue the perception that the North were basically evil, we really couldn't send them back.

My how things have changed. Now, we're so callous we send Afghans back to a place no one would want to be - unless they were Taliban.

Anyway, this thread is supposed to be about corporations re-writing our laws for us courtesy of a potentially neo-con driven Liberal party.

If this happens, it should be the single greatest issue of concern to this country because it will be extremely hard to peg back.
