...He doesn't want to have a black eye on his acting resume'. I think he knows that Obama is an empty suit. But he's not going to sign on to do a movie about him like he did Muhammed Ali until he proves he's a good president. but it won't happen. So don't hold your breath looking for a movie about Obama played by Will Smith.
You assume they would do a movie that flattered Obama. They may just make one some day like they did about "W".
Now I don't understand why Obama would not be good enough for Will Smith? It's not like Obama doesn't have a good pair of legs to please Smith, or something.
So Will confided in you this revelation?? Will Smith is more of a big special effects actor. That's the type of rolls he looks for. He is also kinda busy promoting the careers of his children. They are both already making millions and have the pathway cleared for their success. As long as they keep their nose clean with the law, and stay off the drugs, they cannot fail at this point.
He was asked if he would play Obama back when Obama won in 2008. it's on youtube. I thought it was a little early to ask him that. but he didn't say yes nor did he say no. so my guess is, he wanted to wait and see if Obama would turn out to be a good President before he signed on. And now that we know he's not a good president, Will will surely turn it down. He's not going to play an empty suit knucklehead that cracks bad jokes and bows to foreign dictators. That's not Will. You may be thinking of Forest Whitaker in the Last King of Scotland. He can play a crazy good dictator. but not Will. He smiles too much.
Talented multi-dimensional actors like to present themselves with a legitimate challenge, and prefer playing characters that do not fit their own characteristics. Which is why you rarely see good actors staring in the movies, since the overwhelming majority of them are single dimensional and usually play themselves in each and every role they play. It's more comfortable for them. That's why most of the best actors are in theatre, or playing the bit supporting roles that make the star look good.
good points. never looked at it like that. BUT I always wondered why some actors always play the same type roles. they call it type-casting.
Will Smith is a nice guy and extremely bright.. He had a full ride at MIT I believe. My son worked with him years ago and cannot speak highly enough of him. Its not time to do a movie about Obama.. That will come later when his presidency is judged in the light of history.
That's one form of type casting, and it works for many of the major stars in movies today, since they are not actual actors but individual personas. Another form is deadly to a persons acting career. That's the one where the public recognizes and associates them as a specific character and locked into it because of their popularity as that character. Unless something extremely significant or traumatic happens during his final year in office, it is highly unlikely for him to be movie worthy. You might see him as a character in a movie, but I doubt Obummer will meet the criteria to attempt the risk. On the other hand with the trash that is being defined as entertainment these days, somebody might try it, but with the obvious failure of W it wouldnt be a wise financial investment, IMHO.
Hollywood would make one just to glaze over the truth in this country. I don't put nothing past Hollywood. just like they did "W" and slid that under everybody's radar.
hes not that good of an actor, denzel washington would be perfect hes also ultra liberal in his personal life
According to what.? Did he say as much.? I doubt Will Smith would make any such pronouncement. It would only complicate his career. I can see where he may have been pressured to answer any query.
Will spoke on it himself, here. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...Obama-as-US-President-in-Hollywood-movie.html
