In an effort to maximize the pain of the government shutdown, the National Park Service (NPS) ordered the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to shut down a host of popular parks. However, the DNR decided to enforce its Tenth Amendment rights instead.

The DNR rejected the NPS’ request on the ground that a majority of the funding for the parks comes from its own coffers. It issued a statement noting that all state parks, trails and other recreational properties will remain open.

And, it removed barricades from a boat launch along the Mississippi River that was shut down by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, despite it being on federal land. The DNR claims it has the authority to operate the launch under a 1961 agreement with the federal government.

In a sign of just how easily states can do without federal assistance, Wisconsin plans to operate its parks entirely with its own funds. The sky has not fallen in The Badger State without Uncle Sam holding its hand.

Wisconsin’s efforts to protect its 10th Amendment rights by reopening parks it largely funds are a reminder of a growing effort by states to take back their freedoms.

Gave me an idea. Maybe we need to dismantle all the DC parks, memorials, museums etc and move them to a state. Virginia, New Jersey for instance. Let the grown ups run things. The children in DC have proven they cannot play nice so a time out and removal of toys is in order.

It's becoming clear that the US Park Service has been taken over by big government wackos.

Well it's not just the park service but America needs to start somewhere. Admittedly just a pipe dream as the American people are basically asleep just like the bureaucrats. Signs of the long slumber coming to an end but too little too late IMO.

The idiot Obama admin is trying to block all access to rivers and even the ocean. No access to water.

I think I will go outside and pee in a puddle and see if the Nat Park Service shows up and throws a fence up around it.

I would agree. Americans need to start with themselves, their home and family. Having government as the primary mother of all things seems to be the motto for the last 80 years.

You might want to ask Arizona and many other states (by now, I've lost track of how many) before giving too much thought to that notion. States are just something else to bribe, threaten, undermine, and overrule - kind of like people, laws, constitution, and anything else that poses an obstacle to agenda and legacy.
