With all this talk of gun control, I have yet to hear how the politicans are going to take guns away from criminals!!! That means the whole deal is just a waste of time!! Care to comment gun control advocates????

Well more laws, added to the 26,000 gun laws in the US, will certainly help. I just don't understand why they don't outlaw murder.
They can't as long as it's legal to own and carry guns. They can try to introduce measures to prevent people with convictions (which isn't the same group as criminals) from legally getting guns but even those measures raise objections and could logically be considered as much a breach of the 2nd Amendment as many other gun control measures. They can (and I'm sure do) also try to stamp out illegal gun running but that's as difficult as impacting any major organised crime and probably harder when it can be hidden behind a veil of legal importation, transportation and sales. Ultimately, however many or few legal guns you have in a society, a proportion of those guns are going to be used in criminal acts. While the argument that criminals ignore gun laws has validity, so does the argument that the easier you make it to get a gun for legitimate means, the easier you make it to get one for illegitimate means too. In pretty much any context, you can't significantly restrict the rights of criminals without inevitably restricting rights of law-abiding citizens to some extent.
Gun laws aren't just about preventing murder for a start. Dangerous driving is illegal but we still have specific laws and regulations around car and driver safety.
How about giving power back cracking down on vendors who sell guns illegally? How about giving power back to the ATF? GOP lawmakers with help from the NRA have effectively crippled the ATF's ability to enforce gun laws. John Stewart sums up many of the problems pretty well here. The gun grabbers make a lot of sense on that one. They say that it is too hard to take guns from criminals, so they are trying for the much easier goal of taking guns from innocent citizens and hope that doing so will magically eliminate all of the guns in criminal hands.
I see, so you want to complain about something and offer no solutions yourself? Legislators have proposed several ideas for gun regulation, including extensive background checks that would potentially keep guns out of the hands of criminals. You are obviously not happy with their ideas, so do tell, what do you find an appropriate tactic? How do you feel about my proposed changes with strengthening the ATF? If you have no actual ideas and instead just want to start a liberal bashing circle jerk with no actual interest in an actual conversation, just admit it. No one will be surprised.

So, what? Do away with laws because criminals will commit crimes no matter what? You've offered nothing in this thread except foaming at the mouth about liberals for fictional reasons. Cracking down on illegally sold guns and the vendors who sell them will result in less illegal guns on the street, and less murders and crimes. Do you not think that's true? Capital punishment is a different discussion for a different thread. That is not a solution for "taking guns away from criminals", which seems to be the entire point of your OP. Again, what are your suggestions for "taking guns from criminals" since you are unhappy with the ideas put forth by lawmakers?

Actually your point was to take guns away from criminals. You clearly said that in your OP and many times afterwards. You have absolutely no solutions and have no intention of having a reasonable discussion about the best ways to enforce gun laws. Moving the goal posts all over the field does not change that.
The point of taking guns away from criminals it to prevent them from killing people. If criminals knew that if they killed someone, they would be hung in public, it would mean that even if they did have a gun, they better not use it. However let the brilliant leftwing loons in Congress figure a way of taking guns away from criminals. Surely in concert with the smartest man in the country, our dear leader Obama, they should come up with a way in short order.

I couldn't agree more... It's the total lack of consequences that make so many people in this country feel like its ok to do whatever they choose. Everyone has rights, but honestly those rights end where anothers begin....
