Many, myself included, hold Lincoln in high regard because of his attempts to bring the Union back together while pretending the previous 80 years of history had never happened. Noble. The best of intentions. But, in retrospect, was it a mistake? If, instead of the "with malice toward none with charity for all" tack Lincoln had, instead, decided to follow the lead of the "Radical Republicans" and applied all the malice called for in dealing with traitors how might things have changed? Arrest try and execute all of the military leaders of the rebellion. Arrest try and execute all of the political leaders of the rebellion. Strip all of the wealth from the families of the military and political leaders of the rebellion. Forbid elected office to anyone who had served in the Confederate military. Forbid elected office to anyone elected to office in the CSA. Strip the financial resources of anyone who provided financial support to the rebellion. How might things be different today?
I'll start... There wouldn't be any issues about tearing down Confederate memorials because there wouldn't be any memorials. No Daughters of the Confederacy and similar organizations to fund places like Stone Mountain nor any of the other monuments around the country.
The democrat party should have been disbanded and outlawed. I do not believe the Nazi Party is a major party in Germany today so why is the democrat party a major party?
