'Wokeism' is Maoism with American characteristics: Xi Van Fleet | Fox News Video, October 1, 2023

Xi Van Fleet, who lived (maybe "survived" might be more accurate) through Chairman Mao's "Cultural Revolution" in China explains in this video that the current so-called 'Wokeism' (social-progressive activism) in the U.S. is similar to what happened in China under Mao, "Maoism with American characteristics".

For those who may not know Chinese history, Mao's Cultural Revolution took place between about 1966, lasting up to 1976. It is widely regarded as a period of chaos in China, supported by Mao who was in power. It was used to wage a kind of war against social elements in China that the Communist Party wanted to eliminate, but Mao also ended up manipulating it to be able to get rid of political enemies and rivals within the Communist Party. It involved huge amounts of propaganda and trying to mobilize the common population to form activist groups to fight against "enemies" within the nation. Mao believed that only by keeping up the feelings of revolutionary fervor among the younger generation would he be able to stay in power and ensure popular support for the Party's ideology.

It looks like 'Wokeism' is a blend between the Maoist Cultural Revolution and the Frankfurt school (both of which ultimately emerged out of Marxism).
