In wars it's always the men that have been sent to their death, men expected to do the dangerous jobs, women and children first on the life boats e.t.c. It's a given than men's lives hold less value, it's logical. The reason. If you took a couple of men. Stuck them on a desert island with 100 women. Those couple of men could impregnate those 100 women multiple times over the years and produces hundreds of children. If you stuck a handful of women on a desert island with 100 men. Very few children would be produced. This is why men's lives are less important to the continuation of humanity. Basically its CHILDREN'S lives that are valuable, women are valued by proxi. Take a women that's unable to bare children or too old to bare children and their value becomes as low as men's. Very interesting and thought provoking.
That is an interesting perspective. Society has traditionally considered females "valuable" more so only if they are not past typical & optimal reproductive age, or if they are mothers to younger children. And men were considered valuable only if they could afford to provide for a family. And once a man's children were grown up, he was not really considered valuable, and his important role was over. Indeed, a few men decided to become fathers in older age because they felt their life devoid of meaning and purpose.
Well, take 10,000 men and 0 women.... Well, take 100,000 men and 0 women... Well, take 1,000,000 men and 0 women How "valuable" are they?
There is a reason why women don't die when they can't give birth anymore, and also men, when they cannot hunt anymore. Imagine what explanation evolution has to offer.
I don't think it's that women are more or less valuable. Depends on the context. Regarding women and children to the life boats first it doesn't need to be a calculation. Just feels right, no?
