So you say. Perhaps one-day we will know the climate scientists' warnings were wrong.

In the meantime we can nationalize the entire energy sector, and begin building the smart grid connecting resilient green infrastructure, and enjoy the free 'fuel' (sunshine/wind).

As an alternative to winners (fossil profiteers) and losers (subject to high energy prices) from "business as usual".

Previously published in the October 2020, issue of International Cement Review

Can renewable energy sources supply the world with a large share of the energy it requires? While some environmentalists advocate the total replacement of fossil fuels by solar, wind and battery power, Dr Lars Schernikau explains why this is impossible.

"HMS Bergbau AG is a globally operating company that has specialized in reliable, just-in-time deliveries of coal products to power stations, cement producers and other industrial consumers".

Note my underlined: a case of vested interests coloring the good Doctor's views?..

I'll go with the ANU study identifying sufficient pumped-hydro sites around the world to allow transition from fossils.
    Until proven otherwise.

Speaking of which: can you post a quote a paragraph from your linked article which proves 100% green is impossible?

Make the power company financially responsible for keeping the power on. Let them manage trees near their right-of-ways.

No, natural gas. Nuclear will provide baseload power in the future.

Why are we dragging our feet on new generation nuclear?

China is building several ("fourth generation", iirc) nuclear plants right now.

China is working on becoming the world's hegemon. America is working on making China the world's hegemon. That is the only explanation of America destroying its infrastructure while China builds her. Don't worry it won't be long now, it will certainly happen in our lifetime. China just surpassed America as Europe's greatest trading partner this year. It surpassed America in patents (intellectual property) a few years back and paper citations last year. It has long since eclipsed America in the number of engineers produced and is now producing engineers of the same quality as America, in a few years they will be producing superior engineers. America will have the most diverse and inclusive engineering corp while China will have the best.

Yep, 4 yrs of isolationism. Tariffs. Trade wars. Pissing of our allies.
Put America on the path to 2nd or 3rd fiddle.

    Can we regain leadership again?

Leadership??? The exact words out of Biden's own mouth describe him as a dictator just like his pals in Iran and China.

I hate to say it but we no longer deserve leadership.
Our allies and partners cannot hold their breaths and depend on Americans not to f*** up every four years.

Nobody serious advocates for that. That is just right wing propaganda and fringe nonsense.

Alternative fuels are the solution and everyone in the world of energy know it.

Only an uneducated person who didn't know, see and hear what Biden said would question my post.

“I have this strange notion, we are a democracy … if you can’t get the votes … you can’t [legislate] by executive order unless you’re a dictator. We’re a democracy. We need consensus." Knumb Knuts Biden

I'm sure you'll find a way to deny what he said.

We'll know if a few years.
I think that ship may have sailed. But we'll know soon enough.

    Sooooo,

    1) Texas has its own power grid because they wanted to bypass Federal Regulations
    2) They purchased wind turbines but refused to purchase the cold-weather package
    3) They have had ten years to correct the situation - the same thing happened in 2011
    4) Gas and coal plants have failed and account for most of their power

    Isn't that interesting

Firstly, I'm a physicist and I'm sure my IQ is at least 40 points higher than yours. Your posts painfully confirm that.

I like my natural gas boiler. Set the thermostats at 70°F, bedrooms a little less, and forget it.

Can you cite this? Also, does that state of Texas own the windmills or otherwise government owned?

Then I guess we have some unserious posters here. And then there's Stanford professor Mark Jacobson.
