is an absolute certainty one day, moves have been afoot for a long long time. imo its not a bad thing at all necessarily and is a natural stage of human evolution, though obviously the possibilities for negative consequences are magnified.

Not surprisingly, the same people who want to tell everyone what to do want a world government to make sure they don't miss a chance to boss around everyone.

It'll probably happen if only to contain the sheer number of loose idiots who somehow think they're free and able to dictate their own terms of engagement with the world via the barrel of a gun.

I'd certainly laugh every day if the US was under the governance of the UN and all the 'freedom shooters' had been dispatched. As they should be, obviously, since they're all home grown terrorists.

    :D

Tell me again, gun fondlers, just how sane and responsible you are according to your own self diagnosis.

When you tell me how to escape from tyranny when the whole world is under one government.

I own two guns...a cap and ball 45...and a bolt action .22 Savage with a five round clip.

Our Second Amendment covers it quite nicely.

Well, I do not think the creation of world government is a natural stage of human evolution. That requires much more evidence for such a claim to be a reality. On the other hand, it is an absolute certainty that world government will be put in place. In fact, in many cases, the basic framework is already here in the form of global governance via international organizations, transnational civil society networks, multinational corporations, etc.

At the same time, yes, there are and will be many negative consequences of this progression. We see this through globalization in the form of greater income inequality, human capital disparity, development gaps, poverty incidence, among other factors.

Furthermore, it is important to bear in mind why globalization occurs in the first place. A construction of such an interconnected planet is not possible without the practice of global capitalism. This is due to the economic system's ability to sequester social factors from market factors, eliminating constraints on its growth.

Lastly, I would like to say that globalization is not new. The size of global interconnectedness has not changed that much. What has is its scope. There is more complexity and depth to the current globalized world. I expect this continue into the future.

Global Democracy is the only thing worse than American Democracy. Americans are the dumbest people in the world. I've been to Holland, Germany, Austria, Spain, France, and Italy. Everyone is just as ignorant and reckless as Americans, but only in America do we ignore this. Only in America do we LIKE this.

Its simply not possible to have a one world government. Far too many different belief systems for a general rule to cover everyone. You would see splintering and fracturing. Rome was probably about the biggest you can get before it just starts to fall apart. And the fact that you cannot maintain an army big enough to keep everyone in line is a huge consideration.

The closest you may get to a one world government is when we start space travel. It would make sense to start that under one set of rules and principles. You will never see it on earth however.

You are probably right that a single government body will evolve one day, but not soon and likely not in time for a significant portion of the population. Just as there was a need to unify the United States and the European Union, common problems that cannot be ignored or addressed by individual nations will eventually unify us under a single roof. The problem is it will take one or more crisis facing the entire species before it becomes a reality. Overpopulation, Global Climate change disrupting immigration controls, pandemics, most likely a combination of all of the above, there is certainly no lack of predictable causes we already recognize. We will likely have a couple of devastating wars wiping out huge populations if history is any guide.

I'm sure it will happen if modern communications survive, but the change won't be pretty and I'm happy that I won't last long enough to see it.

Its been tried and it just isn't sustainable. Ghenghis Khan had the biggest empire to date and he couldn't maintain it. We all know about Rome. Charlamagne had all of Europe and couldn't keep it up. Japan couldn't maintain Asia......its just history littered with failed global rule.

Basically people in Pakistan are not going to accept european rulers and we won't accept them. People always crave direct representation and you cannot get that from somone dictating your life from 6000 miles away.

A global government would be even more ineffective that most national and international bodies (like the EU or AU), and would not really represent the average citizen. It would be filled with corruption and would ultimately lead to tyranny.
