I just want to make it clear right away, this thread is NOT an invitation for people to start criticizing religions or their places of worship. I'm starting it for everybody to post about some of their favorite places of worship from around the world and it isn't exclusive to one religion ALL temples count

Now that Ingot that our of the way, here is one of the most beautiful Masjid's I've ever seen.

It's the Krystal Masjid (Or Crystal Mosque) in Malaysia. During the day it shines in the sunlight and at night it lights up and looks even better.

    Salam :)

I like some of the Russian churches:

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour was destroyed by atheist/communist Lazar Kaganovich in 1931. It has now been rebuilt: [IMG]

I really want to visit Rome and see the painted ceiling of the Sistine Chapel someday. Michelangelo was such an incredible and inspiring artist and his entire life story from his experiences with the Medici family to being forced to paint the Sistine Chapel, to finally creating his sculpted masterpiece David, is just so fascinating.

The Sistine Chapel's ceiling is just quite the piece of artwork. (Although it's a shame they felt the need to hire another painter to paint all the loincloths on most of the nude characters in the paintings.) lol I do find it interesting that Christ's depiction in these paintings leans more towards the physical appearance of the God Apollo than of the dark haired and bearded Christ.

The architecture of the exterior of the Sistine Chapel is very interetsing as well especially with all those Roman columns, which I can't be too sure which order they are, Doric, Ionic or Corinthian. But still beautiful.

al-Rashid Mosque, in Edmonton Alberta Canada.

Reason I posted it isn't because of looks, but it's history. First Mosque built in Canada (contributions from the Muslim comminity in Edmonton including my family) but also the second Mosque built in North America (it was suppose to be the first in North America but Muslims in North Dakota beat us to it lol).

Also want to say, that Russian Church posted earlier looks pretty sick. So many colours.

    Salam :)

I was thinking the exact same thing. I can't think of anything more kitsch than this without referring to Las Vegas.

I couldn't care about that, though.

Come to think of it, though, I actually think that mosque has been as cheap as it looks. Glass and steel is still cheaper than stone.

You're right about that. Glass is only melted sand after all... Hey we could help them by melting the whole region all at once!

I traveled in Russia. The churches really are beautiful.

The cathedrals that were changed into museums and official buildings are absolutely amazing. You get neck strain looking up at all the painted ceilings and grand art. LOL

Some of the simpler Protestant churches have their merits too.

    Angkor Wat... or Angkor, what???

Maybe we should add an audio track of Charlton Heston screaming: "They did it, They finaly did it... They did blow it up... the bastard!"

Great thread! Love the pics so far... here's one of my favorites:

St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York City -- a place of beauty & peace in the midst of the chaos that is NYC
