an argument I have never made-it is specious. comparing the USA to any other country on the gun issue is usually stupid unless it is to prove that say, suicides would end if we banned guns-Japan proves that is not correct

Japan has less sunshine so it would naturally have a higher suicide rate, also a very strong culture of personal success combined with a different attitude to suicide so it “proves” nothing

Our suicide rate went down after the National Firearm Reform. Which is a stronger correlate as it was the same society

I didn't say anything about guns. I responded to your question "So why have any laws at all?"

well why do police have guns-for self defense in civilian environments. that proves the weapons they are issued are very suitable for self defense in civilian environments. So how can anti gun people claim those firearms have no legitimate purpose? I don't trust a government that doesn't trust its proper masters to have the same weapons that the government would use against its own citizens

I don't completely disagree, though it's not as simple as you imply. McVeigh was ex-military and had an interest in explosives while in the military. Building a big bomb isn't an easy thing to do without training. The 2017 Barcelona terror attacks are illustrative. They built a bomb, but ended up blowing up their own safehouse instead. Part of the terror cell went out with melee weapons, and were easily gunned down. The real damage was done by those who chose to run over a bunch of people in their car.

I was responding to the comment about Switzerland. The "bu...bu....but Switzerland" is an old NRA propaganda point.

Our Aussie brothers are "Britain in the sun", they absolutely care about freedom, they just put the greater good of society above their personal predilections

Firearms are still the most effective way to kill, rapidly and at distance
