due to the coronovirus outbreak? We (wife and I in 40's and two elementary school aged girls) have a trip planned to San Antonio next week, planning to do all the touristy stuff - Alamo, Sea World, River Walk, etc. Would you cancel this trip?

The hype here probably exceeds the risk dramatically. San Antonio area has 11 cases, all people infected overseas and now in quarantine.
I think exposure depends a lot on travel. If you are driving, you have a controlled environment, and you do have control of your proximity and close contacts while you are there. If you are flying, you are sort of in an incubator environment and will be in close proximity to people who overall will represent a lot of areas around the country. If you fly, you might also be penalized for not using the tickets.

    Just things to consider!

    Absolutely not.

As a matter of fact I just bought season passes to Sea World and Busch Gardens yesterday.

    - every time someone coughs you are probably going to get a little nervous
    - if your kids get the sniffles on the trip, it will probably make you wonder if its corona virus
    - sea world has tons of people in it and I'm sure at least 20% of them are rude people that don't cover their mouth when sneezing/coughing
on the bright side, you will have some interesting family vacation photos

I would personally cancel but if you do go...i wish you the best and hope it safe and happy trip!

they are saying the people that are sick are the ones that should be wearing the masks, to prevent them from spreading it

has to do with people touching their faces more when they wear the mask and that increases your risks

The risk is very low. Just check the numbers. Go and enjoy a normal life. Just this morning from John Hopkins the numbers are over 3,000 have died from the virus worldwide. Also worldwide over 48,000 have recovered from the virus. Small numbers for the world.

My son was there with his family last week. He had a blast. He'll be in Korea soon. Family is safe in the states.

I've already had the flu this year - I don't want a repeat, but I agree the risk is low (at the moment).

I wouldn't cancel it. But there is no one answer to this question. Does anybody in your family (especially the adults) have respiratory issues, or a history of low defenses? Do a checkup with a physician, if you're not sure.

I think that, in the end, we're all going to be exposed to the virus anyway. The incompetence of this administration (i.e. Trump's lies) is not going to isolate it long enough for a vaccine to be developed (a year to a year and a half).

I'd probably not cancel the trip, but I'd avoid large, dense crowds. If you do the touristy stuff, just wash your hand regularly and be conscious about touching your face.

We have a trip planned to Assateague in early April. However, we'll be camping, so no crowds there. Not sure if the wild horses can get coronavirus :).

Its a cold. Don't let it affect your life in any way. I doubt that the Corona virus is going to be any more deadly a pandemic as SARS, swine flu, Asian bird flu, Legionaire's Disease, African killer bees, having the Earth fly through the tail of Haley's Comet, Bisphenol A, trans fats, hormone replacement therapy, anthrax, cell phones, Y2K, bomb cyclones, fire ants, and a thousand other things that everyone should be afraid of, according to your government. They are trying to stampede the herd. Just ignore it, it is simply noise.

Is this whole corona virus scare a way for media types to pretend that they are somehow important? Is it your government trying to show you that only they can save you but you have to give them more money so they can become a bigger, more powerful government? Somehow, I have managed to live through all of these scares with everything but my naivety intact. Are we really going to fall for this the thousandth time?

I no, we're going. Of course we are all healthy or the decision might be different. I'm just curios what everyone else would do.

So you could be the conduit for this novel virus to take residence in your home town. Probably wouldn't kill that many old farts.

This is why we cannot stop its spread .

Just human nature that sometimes the rational mind takes a back seat .

Personally I am not traveling until the viral cycle shows us more data. And I am limiting my shopping Less trips . I travel with hand wash. I have grabbed a lot of store handles in my life and so have everyone else.

I dont trust "novel viruses "
