Nearly every conspiracy theory I have ever seen relies on the allegation that some mysterious “they” are withholding information, covering up, lying, hiding the truth etc etc etc so, who are “they”? Is it you, your neighbour, bloke down the street, some disguised alien from Alpha Centauri? Given the “six degrees of separation” odds are that if conspiracies are as widespread as this forum would suggest then one of the participants is either you or someone you know
I'm not an authority on the inner workings of conspiracy theories but I'd venture a guess that not broadcasting it would make the top of the list.
James Madison was correct centuries ago in noting that "in truth, all men holding power ought to be mistrusted." The OP suggests that humans don't conspire, and that humans holding political office are angelic in their behavior. Nothing could be further from the truth. A poll with absurd and silly choices reflects how naive the OP is as to the ways of the world. Anybody really wanting to become informed on the matter of conspiracies should read Lance DeHaven-Smith's fine book from a few years back, "Conspiracy Theory in America". Humans have always conspired, and that is especially true of humans holding public office.
Everyone DOES or HAS participated in a conspiracy. Conspiracy is not a crime in and of it self nor even necessarily a bad thing. For example most parents have probably conspired to let their kids believe that a fat guy in a red suit trespasses and leaves presents every christmas. Of that there's a fairy that collects teeth under a pillow and leaves money. Harmless conspiracies but still conspiracies.
There is a difference between conspiracy and conspiracy theory. The former is common and not always a bad thing. The latter is debunked nonsense with few exceptions.
Some people gravitate toward them, others don't. Sometimes they help to make sense of a situation that is unexplainable to some people, while others accept the situation as is. I will indulge listening to friends who believe in one conspiracy theory or the other, but I will always ask questions. If they can't answer them and just use vague 'they' answers, I'm out.
Who are "they" ?? It depends on the situation. I think conspiracy theories are a balance to the tendency of people to join a cult. So, either the followers think their leader can do no wrong, or they are lying with sinister intentions. It all balances out in the end.
Here's some stuff about conspiracy theorists. I have hit “global research Canada” before and the conspiracy theory is strong in this one! Now I ask you - out of all those theories - do you personally know anyone involved in any of them?
Yes. Whenever you argue intelligently against a conspiracy theory the default response is to accuse you of being a part of it. I have been adamantly identified as an agent of the Mossad, The CIA, The NWO, The Council on Foreign Relations,The illuminati, The reptilians, the roman Catholic church, the church of satan, and the boy scouts. It is the go to response whern you disprove a conspiracy theory.
Before we had science there were SUPERSTITIONS that provided "explanations" for things that were not understood. Nowadays we have science that has DEBUNKED these superstitions using hard facts and verifiable knowledge and reason. Conspiracy theories are the modern EQUIVALENT of superstitions and if you know anyone who is a Science Denier the odds are good that they ALSO believe in conspiracy drivel. I have considered writing a spoof book called Gullible's Travails that document the journey of someone LOST in the sewers of the conspiracy mindset. If I do it right it will probably become a Best Seller among conspiracy believers because they won't realize that it is all about them. Edit: Just checked, that title has already been taken!
Conspiracy theories are a natural response to government secrecy. In case you haven't noticed, we have government secrecy in SPADES! The government claims it has nothing to hide, but goes on to hide everything. That rightfully fosters suspicion and mistrust amongst that part of society that thinks for itself, a decided minority. When official stories over decades have all the facts and evidence against them, curious and analytical minds know the government lies as a matter of practice. That increases conspiracy theory.
Your problem though is you parrot moronic and batshit crazy conspiracy theories but you can not substantiate a single claim you make with any evidence what so ever. All this does is make you look like an idiot.
