Honestly, If my brother died in service and I knew who did it. I would pee on their dead body in a heart beat. What people don't seem to understand is these soldiers watch their friends die. They watch them get blown up, tore apart by land minds. They are mentally scared they have to be angry at someone? Why not the person who has caused them this scaring. These are the same people who have kid napped American journalist (Not even enemy combatants) and video taped them cutting their heads off. I have no sympathy, because they are no better. Why? Would it bring your brother back to life? Would it make any difference to the dead person? Would it actually make you feel any better in the long term? Doesn't that bring us back to the US government officials? Seriously though, while there is a major psychological impact on combat troops, that does automatically excuse any incident or atrocity they commit. That's an argument for helping and treating them, not saying their acting out is to be accepted or even celebrated. Only no better though. Many of those people have watch friends and family die, blown up by bombs and landmines. Many of them will be mentally scarred. Why don't you excuse their responses in the exactly the same way as you do the US troops? They may well think the exact opposite of course. That kind of attitude is dangerous though - it's lead to genocide in the past (and who is to know if "your people" get in there first). I'd replace it with an equals sign myself, even for someone like you.

No, it would not bring my brother back, but yes it would make me feel better that is how the human mind works. It would be like someone killed you're mom and they were standing in front of you and you had a knife. Humans are violent barbaric creatures when we are emotional scarred. No, it does no give them a right to do whatever they please, but they did fight for this country and war has a extremely negative effect on the human mind. Would I to some degree defend someone who has served in the military to higher degree because of their mental state? Yes I would. No, at least our people had the dignity to (*)(*)(*)(*) on them during the day. Not kidnap some poor journalist who has nothing to do with your suffering and cut his head off like a coward. At least these soldiers fought this on some form of honorable combat. Anyone who does not value the life of their own countrymen over the life of another nation does not deserve the protection that country gives them in the first place. You don't like the way a country operates you leave. While on the other hand that other person fights for his people which directly conflicts with my better interests.

In the short term maybe - in the long term it doesn't. Vengeance makes the heart grow harder. I've sadly watched it happen first hand. Too true. The question is whether we resist and try to rise above that instinct or celebrate and embrace it. Any military or just the US military? It's lovely to know that you think so little of me because I'm not American (there's a word for that isn't there?). Presumably you think equally little of all the non-Americans fighting and dying to protect you and have only good things to say about the Americans who would happily kill you because of their different political, social or religious views.
