I think I probably would. Looks... fun? I think either Moldova or Bulgaria. I'd certainly take the time to learn Russian like this guy. Looks like he's having a lot more fun than someone who doesn't know the language(s).
While I would love to see those places as well, I think I'd want to go to a poorer location, drinking home made wine in a small town surrounded by old soviet cars and buildings. Sounds neat.
The Carpathian Mountains in Romania are spectacular: I wouldn't mind visiting Hungary, too. A cruise down the Danube that includes a stop in Budapest would be nice. I know a woman from Bulgaria who makes an unbelievable pear moonshine. Not sure I want to visit her country but she's a wonderful person and they certainly know how to make great spirits.
The major east european countries are ok to visit. It's the smaller ones that are problematic. They were made totally dependant on the Russian during the soviet era and they haven't really fully recovered. Their government are still corrupt and the law doesn't really extend past the major cities limits.
But that's part of the charm, the gov't may be corrupt, but the people are genuine and sincere in their hospitality. Especially in the country side.
This guy's video went viral in Moldova and shamed the gov't into making improvements. Here's a video of the changes, by another vlogger. The people look friendly enough.
I'll take the advice of someone who spent his life there and has all of his relative still living there over some travel blogger. But you go ahead, it's your life!
